Got myself a Socom Extreme .177. Sec hand, as they were never officially sold in my country. Only for a very short time there have been a few grey imports in .177 only.
Anyway, its of course very hard hitting for .177. What pellets do you use in yours?
I automatically stay away from those PBAs of what are they called, and polymag, but what normal lead pellets suit yours?
I always start with JSB Exact, FTT and Baracuda but maybe there are more too try for this one?

Heavy quality lead pellets. Baracudas, Crosman Premier heavies, Jsb heavies, anything over 10 grain will more than likely be your best bet. Good call staying away from PBA, anything over 9 grain will probably going to fast to stay stable from your rifle, especially 5 grain inconsistent alloy pellets.

It saddens me to see how dead the Gamo gate is, being as great of a beginner AT they can be. Did you ever get to shoot your rifle and find that magic pelllet??

Well !!! Gamo owners...why the silence? I found a interesting YouTube video about this Russian guy who convert his socom 1250 coil spring to a gas ram and done super duper tune up . He is shooting 160 m targets. There is 2 part of the video.
Enjoy the music.... "I got the Power ! " Cheer up !

Yes, shot it. Settled for Baracuda Power (copper coated) for now. Have to try JSB Heavies
Normal pellets just have too much speed so it seems. Just like the old days where they exchanged black powder for smokeless and started using jacketed bullets.
Within 10 shots it nearly shot an apple in half a 25 meters.
The pellets go right through but do get somewhat diverted by the core (white strap up front is front of the apple).
So accuracy is ok too.
Ive added a friend; a Hunter Extreme SE in .25. My demolition duo
Strange thing; barrel lockup of the Socom is so much better (heavier) than the Hunters. The Hunters has a 'normal' weak lockup; the one you can release with 1 finger. The Socom has a stiff lockup, like it should have.
Maybe the difference between 'assembled in the usa' and 'made in spain'? The Socom was never officially sold here, ony very briefly grey imported by 1 gunshop (.177 only ) in 2010. Maybe usa has other specs?

160 metres and the target seems to be pretty good shooting.
How fast does a pellet have to be going at muzzle exit to reach 160 metres and still be following trajectory rather than spent energy drop. At that distance those targets would be hard to see.
160 metres is a long shot even with a .22 LR.

I doubt he's really shooting at 160. Dont think thats realistic. Not with a springer. Pcp maybe.
I do have to say that trajectory is very flat with the Socom Extreme .177.
But not thát flat. 160m indeed is far away even with a .22lr.
Not sure its even a socom extreme; as it doesnt state extreme on the stock
He did a lot of tunung though; think he remade the breechblock?, filled the stock with something..
Pitty video is in russian. Dont understand everything he did with it

Yana, I have read about the gamo hunter 1250 that are capable to shoot target at 80 metre accurately. Your socom, the Hunter 1250, big cat, and the gamo magnum, have the same 33 mm diameter cylinder. They are very powerful air gun. There is a member here from Canada, David reported that he shot a pigeon at about 100 yards with his gamo magnum .22. I think it is possible. And I believe you can too, if you try. Most of the shooter that achieve this long distance range shooting have the .22 calibre. Since yours is the .177, probably within 70 to 80 yards, you may still hit your target with accuracy on a windless and clear day....Of course your lucky day too.
The more you practice, the better you are.
Practice safe shooting too.

Not into trying myself though, as unlike the us/canada, the netherlands is very crouded and longrange is hard to find (and limited to private property or gunrange). My gunclub's range is max 25m.
I have done some plinking in the past though, with a 12Ftp .22. At 60m it was still consistantly hitting spinners without any problem.
At 95m I could hit clay pigeons with it, but due to the enormous pellet drop of 12Ftp .22, I never knew which clay pigeon on the board I was gonna hit
So I dont doubt the accuracy of modern airguns. But 160m?? 100 yards is still far less than 160 meters. (it actually is almost double the distance).
Yes, mine is .177. Iirc, they were at first made in this caliber only. This model was not officially imported into the netherlands, only 1 gunshop grey imported them very briefly (few months). Thats why mine is .177. (and a .25 Hunter to accompany it now)
I do would like to know what kinda tuning he did on his Socom. Pitty the video is in russian.
