Well the mag is certainly the major advantage or at least thats why sumatra won the popularity battle long ago. You could put just about any length pellet in. I own several versions of both and all i can do is give you an opinion.
Unless you want the 100 fpe 500 cc Sumatra for shear power, id get a Career. My older Sumtras (not my newer 500cc) have given me more trouble and headaches than any other guns i own. Action not moving freely, not indexing, hammer not staying cocked, and the list goes on. Generally my career carbines are more accurate than my sumatra carbine. My Career II is one of my most powerful small bores. I would recommend the Career II over any other version of the Career. Yes you have to take the receiver cover off to adjust the pellet stop if you change pellet lengths but most guns have one round they shoot the best even if they have several others they shoot well. Once you find that round you dont have to worry about adjusting the pellet stop. Thats just my experience and opinion. Ive had no problems with my small bore careers. My sumatra carbine has been one thing after the next and my sumatra rifle needs to be torn down because the cocking lever has some resistance (both early models). These sumatra did a lot. They were accurate, powerful, and had a user friendly rotary mag but in the midst of doing all that I think they turned out to be pretty intricate.

I also own Career 707 II's (.22/25) and Sumatras and prefer the Career magazines since I can load more pellets and once I found the preferred pellet that's all I shoot so I never adjust it.
I find the Careers action smoother and more accurate.

My Sumatras .22 and .25 are very accurate. They are about 1 year old and had serveral before. Never had any problem with them. I like the power adjuster, the triger adjustment, all the types of pellets that can be used, also the spitsers and the easy cocking of the Sumatra.
The Career cann't handle spitser in normal use of the magazine. The Sumatra magazine can be loaded very easily. Loading the magazine of the Career 707 is an other story.
For hunting: you can only put the magazine in the Sumatra after it is cocked. You can put the magazine the the Carreer without cocking.
Sam Yang has also the (Golden) Saver in .177 and in .22. It has a side lever and the same magazine as the Career 707. The power of the .22 (Golden) Saver is adjustable from 72 Joules to 84 and has NO adjuster for the pellet lenght. So you can only shoot 10 mm long pellets. The Saver is very accurate with the Sam Yang /Eujin domed pellets.
If I had to choose between the Career 707 and the Sumatra: for hunting the Career, for plinking and target shooting the Sumatra.

I have had both and still have my Career 707 MKII .22. It is by far a better piece. I use it to shoot pest birds around barn lots. So, I'm shooting a lot. The 10 shot inline mag. is far better than the only 6 round mag. of the Sumatra. To me, 6 shots is a Joke. ( I had a Styr Auto 5 with a 5 rd. mag. sold it. Only 5 shots for a semi that's another story). Mine has never giving me an issue and it has had thousand beyond thousand of rounds shot through it. I know also the Sumatra power wheel will rotate on its own.
A friend of mine has had many Sumatra and when introduced to the Careers he switched to the Careers.

I only had he Career 707 in 9MM. But It gets two thums up. It was a pre magazine version single shot. I miss it dearly. 100% solid reliable power. Plus it loved bulk shot round balls. So ammo was cheep. I would take another if it came past me.

I’ve got the .25 Sumatra carbine. It’s about three years old now. Never had any issues with it. After I had it for six months I sent it to Will Piatt for a full tune. He made a great into an even greater rifle.

I think the Career III 707 .25 was the coolest gun I ever had, still kicking myself for selling it
But the Magazine system on the Sumatras is better.

That is a bad @$$ looking rifle Manny.
My earlier favorable comment on my Sumatra carbine, was only that. In no way was it a negative towards the Career.
I've heard nothing but good things about the Careers. If I had the opportunity to buy a Career, I definitely would.

Another Career 707 II fan here. I have owned 4 Sumatras and 3 Careers and still have a Career. All my Sumatras worked fine and were accurate and it was nice that they could take different pellets but as others have said once you set the Career up with its preferred pellet the adjustable stop is a moot point. The Careers seem to be smoother operating and usually have better wood and very accurate.
