JoeyA few questions:1) Do you feel resistance when inserting the bolts into the bore? Yes, I can feel resistence.2) Are you seating them all the way? The aluminum insert on the tip of the bolt should sit flush against the tip of the muzzle. They are seated as far down as I can get them, which basically puts the entire aluminum shroud inside the thread cover with a small part of the tip sticking out.3) Any way you can determine how much dead space you have between the nock on the bolt and the loading port on the gun? There is approximately 1/4" between the back of the barrel and the loading port. You can see it.4) Have you tried opening the loading port when inserting the bolt and then closing it before shooting? If you've been doing this already, have you tried the opposite (loading the bolt with the loading port closed)? I have tried it both ways.5) Any chance you could get to a chrony to get a velocity with slugs/round balls as well as a bolt? I'm note sure when i'll be able to get it chrono'd, I could carry it to the archery shop with the bolt, but I don't think they'll like me slinging lead :-DThanksTyler
Thanks. That is definitely strange. If you can get the Ok to at least get velocities with the air bolts at your local archery range/shop, that would be very helpful. It sounds like you're doing everything right, so I am very curious to see what speeds you are getting. If you can chrono a full string (at least 3-5) shots, that would be very helpful. Bear in mind, it's a 375 grain arrow compared to a 70 grain RB or 100 something grain slug....so there should be a pretty big velocity difference. BTW - single tube or double tube Recluse?
Something wrong with that gun, time to send it to Will Piatt
Alright guys... I'm back for an updated. I went out today and shot some 72gr balls through the gun then broke out the arrows... I lined the o-ring and took aim. Finally got what seemed to be a full power shot.... 3" low at 30yds!I still want to get the gun tuned, but inwomder what kind of difference it makes with bolts.
I had the .50 cal and anytime you stretch the distance you gonna get a pretty good drop using arrows compared to pellets/bullets
Interesting. I would be very keen to know what your gun is shooting speed wise with the round balls for comparison. I can say from experience, there is a huge difference when shooting the air bolt versus a slug or round ball in terms of POI. So what you're saying with them being 3" low at 30 compared to your round ball zero is not surprising. That's just something you have to either correct for before using the bolts in the field, or know the hold differences going in. Tyler
You should get one of those crossbow scopes, so you can range your shots accordingly.
