I see nothing more here than a broken compressor. One large single section of casing laying less than 12" from the unit and some oil spilled (no sign of spatter) does not show me anything catastrophic in the least. (except some poor sap is out $350)However... it IS HPA !!! And it should serve as a reminder to all of us. Be it the pipe bomb we hold a mere inch from our face, or the pressure cooker in our shop, we MUST use common sense. That is the message I choose to take from this thread.
Going to run Royal Purple compressor oil in mine. It will keep the temps down as well.

But since the oil is purple it's going to be hard to tell when the oil is getting dirty?! But considering that the oil is mainly for lubricating the metal to aluminum contact of the crank shaft (Because there is no bearing) I figured it should be fine.
I've been reading along and I am curious if the crankcase vent didn't vent to small pressure changes like it was supposed to or the pressure increased too fast for the vent to relieve the pressure? So if we consider a sudden rise in pressure then maybe there was combustion somehow or a faulty check valve that could have let hpa from one of the compression stages or the hpa tank into the crankcase?I'm just thinking out loud. Thanks,Taso
Do you seriously think that the plastic treads in that breather are going to hold back enough pressure to blow the casing apart? Guy's, not even the first thread looks stretched. It's still threaded all the way in.Yeah ok, I'm outta this thread.
I guess without the owner of this item we can only speculate as to the cause. But it does appear that this happened during use. (Probably initial start up) The compressor doesn't come with oil in it. So the person filled oil.The water lines don't come installed. They are installed in the photo. It may have been dropped during shipping? (Which may be a contributing factor)Would be great to hear the actual story behind this?
