Thank you Hector that great info on the 1st shot. I have been thinking about how to ask that question. When I am going to get ready to hunt crows that is just what I needed to know. And since I will be using a D54 also, how long can I load the pellet before actually making a shot? Some times it appears that it might be up to an hour before they arrive?thanks again and to all the other info also.Shoot straight and give God the glory.
Checked the Straightshooters - OURTake for the RWS350 (that I am guessing is the base for the one you refer too???If so, they tested a .177 to 1190+f/s with a 5.5gr pellet that is one of the NON-LEAD pellets that are coming out of the woodwork. The powerplant on the 350 is pretty close to that of the RWS 54 so I think these results will be valid for the 350.I tested my RWS 54 with pellets from 4.8(or so) grains to nearly 15gr. I got some real measurements near 1200 f/s along with "shotgun" like groups. As Roadworthy says. Don't believe anything you see on the Internet unless you laid hands on the equipment and did it yourself. Virtually no air rifle will perform well with pellets going supersonic. With a reasonable pellet weight 8 or so grains you can expect good results and around 900f/s. My 54 shoots nicely at 860f/s and a 10.5 gr Kodiak Match pellet. I will attach the spreadsheet I made of my tests. 70pellets, 100+ tests, 2 rifles, chronographed velocities, actual weights, calculated energy, and MY accuracy. (your results WILL vary - probably better!) More information than you want to deal with but here it is.
