Title: Meet my new "grand-son"
Post by: Hoosier Daddy on March 14, 2021, 06:11:45 PM
Daughter #3 will never have children due to chemo.
She had a Boxer for 12 years and has been empty since the grand-pup passed over a year ago.
Yesterday she drove 12 hours to pick up our new Grand-son (pup)
Meet River! A German shorthair.
I think He is one handsome guy... But I may be a little bias. ;)

I hope he fills her life with happiness; not much into dogs myself (had to put up with too many strays for too long) but know that they mean a lot to some folks.
Congrats on the new family member  :D

Jessie... I live out in the sticks as well.
a "stray" shows up occasionally.
we name them on the first day.
"Pearl" was the biggest yellow lab I have ever seen... she hung out about a year and then "poof" was gone... before that was Sable, a beautiful Huskie. she only stuck around for one winter time was gone.
Skeezicks was a terrier mutt.. showed up but was on a mission he only stuck around a few days.
Then there was Dutches. She was a beautiful long legqed hound I so wanted to keep. But she had other plans and left after week.

LOL! Well if they were good-natured like the ones you had visit; I might feel differently. When I caught the pitbull-lab mix looking one stalking me on the trail cam, I lost any good feelings toward strays... We did have a beagle with a bum leg that came through a couple years back; finally caught him-had to keep him overnight until we could figure out who the owner was-he was okay.  :D Of course; he liked me better anyone else in my family; so I couldn't help but like him back.  ;D
Enjoy the new grand-pup; hope you get to meet him in-person soon.
Jesse

Scott

i think you will be very happy with River once you meet in person. My first family pet as a very young child was a German short hair that my Dad had that he hunted quail with in Massachusetts. I remember "Rusty" very well since I took my first quail hunting trip with my Dad and Rusty at 4 years old and was hooked ever since.

They are great family dogs and very protective as well as excellent bird dogs. I remember Rusty pointing with right front leg raised and tail stretched out straight when he found a covey of quail waiting for my Dad to give the flush them out hand signal to him. Its like he was frozen in time till my Dad waved him to flush. Hunted with Rusty for many many years.

Good old memories for sure.

Adorable pupper Scott. Their breath smells great until they dig up a kitty munchy buried in the ground. He'll be spolt rotten at your place in no time. Maybe he'll get a few squirrels to his record too.

Congrats to River for landing a great family.

Rambo has been moping around for the past couple days and it finally dawned on me why..
My neighbor "Killer" went to the nursing home and his daughter took Rambo's bestie "Bossie Girl" away to stay with her.
Everytime he goes outside he goes to the end of the deck and stares down the road looking for her.

Nope, none had tags or collars, and that was back before chipping.
We did call the Humane Society (pound) and let them know we had them is anyone was looking for them.

Two weeks ago I complete my shift and head home. It is about 2330 hours and I get out of my truck and head to my front door.
As I'm unlocking the door something rubbed up to my right ankle. I don't panic, because I just figured my duty belt that I was carrying
in my right arm, had just fallen low enough to hit my leg. It was not my duty belt, it was a 4 month old terrier mix puppy.
I was confused to say the least. I opened the front door and was greeted by my three 70 pound mix breed dogs, and the puppy just walks right in.
I went out and searched the streets for about an hour looking for someone looking for their puppy, but no one was out, and all was quite.
The wife and I did all of the normal stuff you would do with a found pet, flyers posted, pet shelters notified, and some on-line posting.
We took her to the local Vet. first thing the next day to have her checked out, and to look for a pet chip. No chip found.
Two or three days go by and no responses to the postings for a lost dog, so at this point we take her to our Vet. for a full check up.
Now a week has past and still no responses to the postings. We made the choice to keep her, along with the other three dogs we have.
We just can't send a dog to the dog pound. At a week and a half we go back to our Vet. and get her chipped and have her rabies shots started.
I know it has been a long story, but I'm very glad she was brought into our lives. I will add some photos soon.

Sometimes the dog pick us not the other way around, that's how my pit/lab mix made the decision for us. We went to see a litter of pups with 4 females and one male pit/lab mixes and the females ran away from me under the front porch but "Blu" the one male came running to me tail wagging and proceeded to chew on my fingers while trying to climb in my lap. So he chose me and came home with me that day.

I chose Dudley 5 years ago about six months after my toy poodle Cosmo passed. I missed having a dog to share my morning routine with. I took a trip to PA to a small breeder that breeds Boston terriers and had taken Dudley in from a friend who bred designer mutts Tsitzu/Bishon teddy bears. The other breeder had family issues and the guy I went to was caring for the litter of designer mutts. Long story short I saw Dudley and fell in love so no Boston Terrier instead I have a 15lb designer mutt with a ton of energy that follows me everywhere I go in the house and yard. Needless to say, I will have a traveling companion when I hit the road.

That's a good looking dog Scott!

Oh, that scares me. Not the big, the riding in the PU bed part.

In 1977 I had a Great Dane that rode in my Truck bed a lot. Once he got excited about something and jumped out when I was going through town. I was going over 25 mph, he landed running, passed me and beat me to my destination (a shopping plaza) a 1/4 mile away. I have tethered every dog that has rode in the bed since.

OK, Boss eats rabbit and deer poop, rolls in skunk grass and plays in the swamp pond on the back corner of our property. She eats frogs and lizards until she foams at the mouth..
I really don't think I want to smell like Boss.

GSPs are beautiful dogs.

I’d like to go on a real hunt with hunting dogs one day.

Sam... It is a wonderful experience!

It looks like amazing!

The closest I’ve been is wondering why my Dobie is freaking out in the backyard, just to find her messing with a stray cat. Blood on her muzzle, blood on the cat.

Me finishing off the cat then begging God to not let my dog have some kind of disease from the cat. Because something had to have been wrong with the cat, because between her and our lab, cat’s do not come in our yard.

We briefly had pet rabbits. She sniffed and sniffed. When she finally saw movement in the hutch, she pointed like a GSP. I laughed and realized we weren’t having rabbits much longer.
