Tripod for HFT

Is it acceptable to use a tripod for HFT with one of the three legs lifted up so that it is a bipod?  I saw quite a few shooters doing that at a local match, but wanted to check if this was ok for regional/national matches.

When I first typed my response I mentioned the fact that two of our locals use a tri-pod for focusing/ranging but I thought about it and took it out.
When they shoot, they rock backwards on their bucket so that only two legs are touching the ground.
In that one of the shooters is the Match Director, he allows it.

Thanks for your responses. I think that I will stick with a plain bipod to practice with over the winter. I don't want to get to a bigger match next year and not be able to use the modified tripod.

They are not allowed on the firing line here in South Carolina, There is a big advantage gained while ranging and focusing, and not having to support the gun from moving side to side or back and forth.
