Went down to BAGA for the second time to shoot in an HFT competition. Ended up finally starting to understand one of the detriments of .22 in HFT/FT, as I had 8 shots split on the target circle and while still hitting the killzone, not doing so with enough power to trigger it as a scoring hit. That said, I still managed to hit 50% of the killzones on a course that was either a 36 or 38 on the Troyer scale, so I was pretty pumped. Some amazing shooters out there for certain!

Make no mistake .177's split too
.... tho a .22 has a greater chance enough energy remains to drop the paddle.
Always a trade off to be made in weight, speed & trajectory.
Great sport Field Target

Thanks for the insight. What I really need to do is get the time and space to do my own range markings on my focus wheel, plus practice those 15-25 yard shots. Even today where my rifle was not cooperating and shooting 40fps slower than normal and had a four inch drop at 50 yards instead of a three inch drop at 50 yards, I still had an easier time with the 45+ yard targets than the 12-25 yard one.
What a fun sport though, and thus far a great group of people to shoot with. The BAGA group is great about helping out new shooters, and it is fun to watch some of the world class competitors they have in attendance at these matches.

Field targets are designed to lock up the faceplate when the faceplate is hit. That is the main reason why spits do not knock them down.

0.177 is the preferred caliber for HFT and FT because of its flatter trajectory. Erros in estimating or measuring distance become less critical in comparison to shooting with 0.22 pellets.
