I shoot Hunter Class Field Target and either shoot my FX Cyclone .22 or my Marauder .177.
don't say it, I have heard it all before, but i can still shoot more accurately with the .22
anyways, that isn't my point.
I had the Marauder set up to shoot 20fpe using 10.3gr Air Arms pellets. The regulator held the speed near 910fps which is more like 19fpe.
anyways, i didn't use the rifle for a few months over the winter and when i brought it out to get it ready for an event, i noticed it was now shooting near 1000fps. a bit hot for 10.3gr pellets but with the 8.4gr offerings it is still shooting at 19fpe or so.
i haven't had the chance to test the accuracy of the lighter pellets, but in general, which is a better choice, the faster, lighter pellet or the slower heavier one? we are talking only about Field Target here.
thoughts?

Heavy! Bucks wind better and retains energy down range.

On a windy day the heavies are your friend, but if the winds are 5-7mph and you have practiced for hold off the 8.4 work better. The lighter pellet will give you a better trajectory, meaning the flat spot will get you a zero from about 18yds to 40 instead of 20-35(with the heavies) making ranging errors at short and longer distances less noticeable.
