Gil,
That is some good shooting, my hat is off to you. Can you tell us more about the UltraDot? What mounts are you using? BTW, I'm a big fan of the P17.

Bob, Thanks for the complements. Put the hat back on and Pursue Your Own Excellence (P.Y.O.E.). Join us, let's have fun.
UltraDot, never had the chance to test their design to this kind of precision. The Bushnell and the Tasco red dots moved from shot to shot. As you know, the problem is when you close the action to lock it, the applied force is somewhere in the 25 to 40 Lbs. range. The UltraDot (older design, today’s offering????, who knows?) The rings (see picts below) came from a box full of assorted rings collected over 30 years. I don't know or remember who made them or where/when I got them. Sorry.
Adjust any red dot scope brightness to the lowest level you can detect. The dot size tends to bloom as the brightness increases. There goes your precision.
When I started shooting the Duckie target, my grip was two handed and very tight. I was shooting a 357/44 Mag. After the 12 miss, the lights started to come on. Loosened my grip to a very light feel like squeezing a egg shell. Then as soon as the red dot was centered in the glass (very important) and aligned with the target then immediately start squeezing the trigger. Let IT happen, take what you get. Let your subconscious handle IT.
Boy, I do ramble on. Hope this helps.
Good luck BobH and have fun.

Bob H.:
Thank you Gil for the info. I have a Center Point red laser on my favorite P17, my method is center on the center. That works well on concentric targets but, not so good on small details. After seeing your results with the red dot, I'm now considering one. I think that a short one could be mounted farther forward and I could still cock the P17 without touching the tube. I looked at the Ultra Dot on the 'net, good thing I was setting down.
I'm going to start having fun again, just as soon as my upper gums heal. Had the last of my upper teeth pulled last week, trying to make friends with my new uppers.
