What Pellets for HW77 for Hunter Field Target

Recently purchased a HW77 from Krale and would like to begin shooting Hunter Field Target and have two questions.
1. How many fpe is the stock spring generating? If in the future, I decided to detune it to 12 fpe. How much of a difference would it make in shootability (if that’s a word) and accuracy if any?
2. What weight range pellets would you suggest experimenting with?
Thanks, Tom

I too am starting to seriously consider HFT . I’m on the fence with both rifles Hw77 or HW95 and which caliber .177 or .22 any information would be greatly appreciated to help limit buyers remorse please 😬.
Thanks in advance,
Robert

HW 77 & 97's basically have the same firing systems, tho barrel lengths differ. FT use a .177 or .20 cal IMO
BOTH will want @ 8+ grain to mid 10 grain weights for the FT task. Lighter to start with & as you get practice ranging and work out how to use DOPE charts most end up shooting the 10 grain stuff for the best wind drift ( Lack of ) properties.

I have been shooting a Hw77K in hunter and now UKHFT, and my gun is set up to shoot 11.4 FPE using 8.44 jsb. When you buy them, here in the US they are 14 to 15 fpe guns. The difference is massive in how pleasant and easy to shoot they become. I have brought mine down to 10 fpe and is even better, but i also still use my HFT gun to hunt and at 12 fpe, squirrels out to 60 yards are very doable. I also own a HW97K in .22 and have shot them at 12 fpe, but mine is a pester so i have it tuned to 16 fpe. Its accurate and strong enough to drop crows and such, and is great at bucking wind. But for competition you are better off with the .177

Try AA/JSB 8.4 go pellets or H&N FTT for starts. .177 is the way to go. 12fpe makes for a nice shooting piston rifle.
