I understand the value of weighing your match pellets and using those within an acceptable weight closest to manufacturer claims for match use. What I'm curious about is the value of washing and lubricating the pellets that make the cut.

I'm of the belief that handling them unnecessarily increases the probability of damaging the skirt.

Is there really an advantage in washing and relubricating your match pellets ?

Pending pellet manufacturer and how much chaff is in the tins ? .... pellet hardness & degree of choke your barrel has.
Skirt truing tho is always a good idea

YEs every time you touch one thats a risk.....

and the benefits you gain from doing anything other than shooting will depend on many factors as MotorHead points out. Im of the opinion that washing them at least takes the crud off and the pellets are at the wieght advertised.

FWIW, your not doing the work to get them to the stated weight, you're trying to get them CONSISTENT to each other......

I'm assuming I can wash them using mild dish detergent and warm water. Dry them with a common hair dryer.

What can I lube them with that will not allow for oxidation to gather on the pellet ? Is there a "common" lubricant I can find in a hardware/automotive store or do I need to buy a dedicated pellet lubricant ?

yep, dish soap, blot dry with paper towel and out in the s un.... um er maybe not this time of year where your at

hair dryer wil work

search on GTA for "pellet lubes"... couple of the popular ones are a bike chain lube from walmart and dupont's Krylox, spendy but a little dab will do ay, and a tube will last for along time
