Maybe bronze bearing washers such as Charlie and Gene used to replace plastic pivot washers? Those have a fairly high lubricity.

Thanks for the additional insights, Gents. There must indeed be a reason why tuners choose certain materials and methods over others: They work well, and last.
Rolling element bearings may just be a gimmick with dubious value and the potential for failure that damages other expensive parts...
What brought this question to mind is the new (but now out of production) Slavia 634 I just received. It is "just right" in many ways, but has perhaps the loudest springer buzz I have every experienced. It was cheap enough that opening it to "fix" it does not seem like and insult to the manufacturer, or anyone else.
There is a lot of overlapping advice on GTA and other boards about how to reduce springer buzz. None of them include rolling element bearings. The reason must be that there is no improvement over simpler methods; and that the bearings can shed parts that damage your airgun. No thanks to that...

I've been around springers for about 40 years, and have tuned quite a few. Over the years, the needle bearings get proposed and tried every few years. The results are almost always the same/ The bearings fall apart, and mess up the insides of the gun. The tried and true methods of properly fitting guides, polished, flat ground spring ends, maybe a couple of washers as sliding surfaces, and proper lubrication will turn a twanger into a thunker. Personally, I like a little high moly grease on the spring ends to eliminate torque, and a very thin layer of spring tar on the spring body. Works almost all the time. Some people like Krytox.

Thanks Gents, for saving me from being too "clever" for my own good.
