95 Vortex lost accuracy

Hey Team!!
I lost accuracy with my 95 Vortex. It was killer out to 30-40 yards, but after 1500 pellets, I lost it. I removed the scope, and I got a decent group with iron sights. I sent the scope back to UTG, and they said it passed the shock test. I put the scope back on, and it still shoots all over the place. The gun is about a year and a half old and out of warrenty. I'm new to air gunning and found loads of information on this forum. I have read many posts in the past about the gas ram seals going bad. I do not have a crony, so I'm guessing on a leaking seal causing inconsistent air pressures. Is it safe to replace the seal as a starting point? I looked back 8 or so pages and can not find the site that sells seals and lube. Suggestions???

Clean the barrel before you do anything else.
It could be as simple as that.

Like Benji said, try cleaning the barrel and also, check the stock screws and do the tissue test...cock it, load it, close it up, then lay a piece of tissue across the breech and take a safe shot. If the tissue tears or flies off, you have a bad breech seal.

I cleaned the barrel and retighten all the screws. As others have mentioned, the trigger housing screw needs constant tightening. I'll try the tissue test.
Thanks

A dab of Blue Loctite or Vibra-Tite will help keep that screw from working loose, just make sure the threads are clean and let it sit 24 hours to cure properly.

Hey Chucker: what do you consider a "decent group?" If you gun groups well with iron sights, odds are the scope is beat, regardless of what UTG says. I recently sent a UTG SWAT 4-12 scope back because it ran out of elevation adjustment before I could get shots on paper with my Hatsan 85 (at 20 yards?!?). They told me it was fine, and that I probably have a barrel droop issue. Gun shoots fine with my el-cheapo 3-9x32 Center Point scope tho, so barrel droop ain't the problem. Thanx UTG, this scope sits on my bench collecting dust now. As suggested, clean the barrel, and I suggest another scope if you can swing it. You may find UTG is wrong about your scope being ok too.

UTG just doesn't want to backup their scope. I've switched over to Hammers scopes off Amazon, and they have been great. Springers are scope killers, and my best luck has been with Hammers and Centerpoint scopes. If the open sights group fine, get a new scope or learn to shoot the open sights.

Good question on "decent groups"
I cleaned the barrel again, and I'll measure the shot groups at 10 and 20 yards with iron sights. I remember a earlier post on Hammers scopes. I may try one. I want to eliminate as many variables as possible. I have not tried the tissue test yet. It was too windy yesterday in Indiana. According to other posts, the seal will fail. It's just a question of when. I would like to self tune at that time. I miss the accuracy, and the nuisance birds are laughing at me.

You might also check for side to side wobble of the barrel, if it does, the barrel pivot screw needs to be snugged up and being loose will affect accuracy. I mentioned the tissue test because on occasion, the breech seal while still good and nothing wrong with it, will get compressed into the breech and not make a tight seal with the receiver and can easily be fixed with a little unwaxed dental floss layered into the channel it sits in.
The Hammers 3-9x40 scopes from Amazon have been getting fairly good reviews although I've seen mention of a couple bad ones but those few got no questions asked replacements. It's not unheard of for better branded scopes to go bad but the Model 95's aren't known to be scope killers unless it's the Optima scopes that came with them which have a bad habit of not lasting long.
Check all those screws and try the tissue test and keep us posted. Hopefully your issue is fixed that easily and your UTG scope wasn't the cause after all.

I will measure off the distances to be more accurate with the shot groups. I wrapped a tissue around the breach and shot. The tissue does move but it may be from the recoil. Will escaping air blow a hole through the tissue? I do not detect any side to side movement in the barrel. I think it is the scope. I was assuming UTG would be honest with their scope tests.
Thanks for your relies

If it didn't blow a hole in the tissue, the breech seal is fine. At this point I'd try another scope and see what happens plus if it goes back to shooting well, it's ammo to use on UTG for saying yours has no problems.

You can also put a little baby powder on the breech to check the seal. I suspect the scope as well.

They ended up here. I made five shot groups. As you can see, some did not even hit the paper. Also, some of the holes are elongated???

I'd love to see some chrony numbers from that gun.

Me too although my .177's shoot the Sniper Mediums and RWS Superdomes better than the FTT's, chrony numbers would tell me if something's up with the gas ram... If you don't have one, maybe check the member map and see if there are any forum members close by that have one and would let you shoot a couple strings.

I dumped baby powder on the breach and shot. I did not see any traces of air blowing through the powder. At this point, the gun is useless. Am I stuck until I can get access to chrony? I'm guessing the seal is fine but the gas ram may be shot?
