It's all perspective..Compare it to a Jet engine running right above your head while you are launching it.Or a blown fuel hemi with open headers crackling in your ears at the starting line...Been there, done both...HUH?... WHAT?
The Crosman 150 is a very loud air gun. I once had a back yard BBQ where we were shooting a 150 about 30 yards from the house. Some of the guests would not get out of their car till we stopped because they thought it was a "real gun".

Maybe something with the blow off valve vs knock open type? I tested my 1400, 392, and vintage Dan with a sound meter placed 3 feet to the side of the muzzle. At 8 pumps on each, 1400- 79.3dB, 392- 80.4dB, Dan- 82.1dB. All three have recent reseals with the 1400 shooting 615fps and the other two shooting around 675 to 685fps. The 1400 is much quieter but shot less fps. Don't know how to describe it exactly but the 1400 has a much different sound to my ears, seems to be at a higher pitch or something. The Dan was loudest by far. Loud and Proud doesn’t work well where I live. Lol

Most all the hunting I have done with Sheridans over the last 60+ years , has been with using 5 pumps. I have used the maximum number for longer shots or bigger game. Now, about the only time I pump one the maximum number of strokes is for testing.
I would have to look it up, but it seems like it was around 530-550fps. That would be with 13.73gr. Ammo.
My Dan Likes the 14.3g Benjamin pellets as well as the 13.73g JSB Exact. For some reason it shoots the heaver one faster and just as accurate. I resealed it with Mac1 parts and was getting around 660fps at full 8 pumps. I noticed the only pump cup you can get now is the modern 392 one which results in more headspace than the old Sheridan cup with a non adjustable rod. I ordered the Mac1 adjustable rod and after getting rid of the headspace, I got 685fps if I pump fast and close to 700fps if I take my time and let the tube fill completely at the top of the stroke. More power at fewer strokes is great! I shoot 5 pumps now at 585fps and 620fps at 6 pumps. Six is plenty for most hunting or 8 will take a ground hog humanly at a reasonable distance. I have a lot of wooded space here in the county so noise is not a problem but my ears like quiet guns. The 1400 has a short crisp report that I like better than the 392 or Dan so I got LDC adapters for them.
