Crosman irons from that era are terrible. The backsight is difficult to adjust and does not hold zero well. The foresight is too thick for precise shooting past fifteen yards. I've scoped my 1400 and it really woke this gun up! It is a dependable squirrel killer out to 35 yards now.

I considered it (I had one mounted on a muzzle loader once) but found that my eyesight has gotten so poor that a scope is my only option.

I screen shot a picture, but I do not want to take credit for someone else’s idea and I am not sure about posting someone else’s picture.Keith
I remember. I also tinkered with a DIY option for my 180, it worked but my quick and dirty version was a bit too crude.

I think the bent nail is adjustable
I have seen a front sight made from a “ cotter pin,” so a bent nail does have some class.
