Title: State Forest Wheelin'
Post by: avator on March 17, 2019, 09:42:10 AM
Loaded the wheelers on the trailer early yesterday morning and headed down to Geneva State Forest...

It's about a 40 minute drive from the house and we got there around 9am. This was Betty Lou's first extended riding adventure. We got home around 3pm with plans to go to opening night at the race track.

Had a great time at the South Alabama Speedway.
These little Honda motorcycle engine powered cars are awesome to watch. One of them barrel rolled down the back stretch. They had four other classes as well including a Pro Late Model 125 lap race. Got home around 1am.
Most pictures are too dark to post but here are a few.

Great entertainment there for sure Bill !!! An MC club that I've been retired from since the mid 80's holds 1/8th mile dirt drags several times during the summer. The big winners are usually powered by a hot snowmobile engine these days.  I should make one dirt drag this year at least.  I'll hit one that has a hog roast cause I get in free 8)

I hadn't been to local small track races since I was a kid. The family used to go to a 3/8 mile dirt track in northeastern Ohio.
Raceway 7 for anyone who might know or remember. I remember coming home with ears, eyes, nose and mouth full of dirt.

Nice to see your having fun with the ATVs , I have that fun at work ;) traded my personal 400 polaris 2 cycle beast for a s-10 pickup last fall, But still have my John Deere AMT with hydraulic dump box :)
We have several race tracks within hearing distance from me, the farthest one is Wisconsin International Raceway, 35 miles, can always hear the thunder of the jet drags when they happen. Fun times when we find the time to attend. ALso just 25 miles from Road America, I got to drive a 72,000 LB quad axle dump truck on that track  8)

They are continuing the Rattler weekend today/tonight with a 250 lap feature. We thought about going but we have to make a trip to my sister's to pick up a new mattress.

Bill

I don't own an ATV but there are several ATV Clubs that sponsor rides here in Minnesota.    They ride all year long.
Some folks use ATV's for ice fishing too.  Many of these machines are decked out with tracks instead of wheels.

 I don't own a snowmobile either.     I do have a old Dodge 4x4 3/4 ton pick-up.

Best Wishes - Tom

Another local event this month is the Opp Rattle Snake Rodeo.

That's another interesting weekend event.

Left out for my sister's at 9am. Made the 200+ mile round trip and picked up the mattress. Got home around 2ish. The new mattress is in place and the old one is at the end of the road in the bulk trash pickup spot.
It's been a busy weekend with lots of miles logged. Now it's time to chill, watch some Nascar and sip a bit of good old Alabama Creek Water.... apple pie flavor, of course....  8)
Tomorrow will be a half day at work then another 45 mile round trip to the Dentist for more adjustments on the choppers and probably some shopping.
Then we'll slow into our normal routine for the rest of the week. Betty Lou is already making plans for next weekend at the Rattle Snake Rodeo.

They had some big boy rattlers as mascots at the race. I'm sure they will be part of the Rodeo because the race track is located in the same town as the Rodeo.
Part of the Rodeo is to collect serum to treat snake bites. Not all snakes are captured and killed.
We were checking one big boy out in a display cage and Betty Lou commented to the handler.... "No offense but we kill those things at our house". Ole boy said.... "I don't blame you".
We have snakes around here that will knock you down if they hit you.

LOL I was going to ask if you were going to pack your snake removal tool for the event "just incase"

Looks like a fun filled weekend there, Bill!

My weekend started off 2 hours in church for my oldest daughter's confirmation. Not as excitng as ATVing through the bush.

But, I did get to go to my first NBA game though. Boston Celtics vs Atlanta Hawks. It was very cool! But way too much money(tickets, parking, food, and "refreshments") spent in a few hours, for my liking.  I got to do it once, so that's good enough for me.

You're lucky it wasn't the Superbowl. One would most likely have to mortgage his home for that.
The cost for the Geneva State Forest was $4 and the Races was $40 plus refreshments. The Rattlesnake Rodeo will be $15 each plus refreshments. That will include the country music shows on Saturday and Sunday.
Cheaper than dinner and a movie.

Yea, I'll just watch from the "luxury" of home.

Yep.... after attending the races on Saturday we realized the luxury of instant replay. You do miss a lot at live events.

;) My wife won tickets to the Elton John farewell tour show at Madison Sq Garden for last week Wednesday evening. Had we paid for those "Nose Bleed" tickets out of pocket it would have cost us ~$900 plus the train ride into the Big Apple and whatever we spent for dinner. I have also gone to a few professional Basketball games and Hockey games over the last 50 years. The word ridiculous comes to mind even when the tix are free you still can spend over $100

Race season officially opens tonight at SAS. General admission is $8.

Betty Lou says she don't want to go this weekend but don't mind if I do. Rain chances are only 15% max. Temps are still cool enough to be comfortable. I'll grab me a spot in the nose bleed where I can see it all. Think I'll load up and go later.
I just love local short track racing..... and hotdogs.   8)
