Hey guys I am pretty new here and waiting for pyramid air to get the Trail NP XL 1100 in stock. Anyways, my buddy's father in law past away about 2 weeks ago and he had this old Sea lion .177 under lever sitting by his back door, guess he used it for pest control, and he asked if I wanted it. I said yea I'll take it to play with, but when I got it it was already cocked so I put a pellet in her and tried to shoot it but nothing, trigger was free pulling. I broke her down and cleaned everything. ( I have never been inside any kind of air gun before) the piston seal was leather and very dried out so I put some grease on it put it back together and what do you know she worked. I have read that it is very bad on a break barrel and an under lever with a spring to stay cocked for any amount of time, I don't know how long it has been broke or how long it has been left cocked but I set up some 20oz bottles and it wold only hit them and bounce off at about 25 feet. I don't think this is normal but i don't know. Tell me what you think. All so I did a mod on it and finished it up today. I like iron sights which it had but I like scopes even better so I modded it so I could mount a scope on it, I cut a piece of steel to go into part of the rear sights and grooved it on both sides so that it could be tapped in to place and have a firm hold on the piece of steel, then i drilled i hole through the rear sight bass and the steel and put a screw all the way through it. It is solid as a rock, then I had to drill holes in the top of the steel bass to mount my scope mount basses which I got out of my spare parts for guns drawer. Over all it turned out better than i expected. I have looked all over the internet and can find very little input on this gun. I would like to do a complete over haul on this gun if I can find original parts or any that would interchange, hmm... wonder if I could put a nitro piston in her? I think this is a really old gun because of the leather seal or maybe that's the way this company put's in them but I haven't read about leather being used in any kind of Air Gun made these days. Here are some pic's of her with the scope mount mod....

Great work Jerry, that scope mount looks good! It's not uncommon to find leather piston seals in Chinese guns. That gun looks a lot like a B3 and might use some of the same parts (I don't know for sure). Here are some links to B3 parts and info:
http://www.southsummit.com/airgun-cleaning-and-parts-kit-for-b3-and-b4.html

I look forward to seeing what else you do with this gun. Just remember to be safe, that main spring can put a hurtin' on you in a hurry!

Here's a kit for it http://www.southsummit.com/airgun-cleaning-and-parts-kit-for-b3-and-b4.html .If it was a plastic bottle it should of penatrated.Click on GTA library and scroll to tune up's and click on b4-2(same gun)and have a read on this type of gun,it's a good starter gun for break downs but need a spring compressor to do it,your spring seems weak.

Yup, a B-3 alright. They tune up nicely. I have 3 of em, all home tuned and all 3 of em took nicely to the tune and have taken their share of backyard pests and game over the years. The tune up tutorial on the "kermit" site shows you step by step what to do. The cleaning/tune kit from southsummit gives you everything you need except the dielectric grease to lube the piston chamber.

Jerry -
Here's the Kermit Project page link:

Click on "B-4-2 Tune up" to download a Word document. The differences between the B-3 and B-4, for these purposes, are negligible.

I got the hots for a B-3 now! Not to hijack the thread - just a quick question: I see South Summit has the B3-1 for $40.00 and the B3-3 for $50.00. What's the difference? Will the South Summit tune up kit fit either gun or just the B3-1? Thanks.

I got a pair of those. Turned one into a Nitro Piston gun. Easy to work on. Thats the first spring gun I broke into. They can be cleaned up to shoot pretty good. and from the looks of it you have skill to do anything you want. Good job on the scope base. Definatly needs a tune though if its not killing a plastice bottle at 25 ft. My bone stock one shoots in the high 500's to low 600's depending on the pellet.

Thanks Onebaddj, this is the first air gun that I have been into and I am definitely going to do a tune on her when I can get the tune kit and get around to it, kind of busy hunting white tales right know. You have got my curiosity up with converting one of yours to a Nitro Piston. what kind of a difference did it make if any, did it improve accuracy, did it improve FPS oh and what name brand NP did you use?

Good evening all! Sorry it took so long to get back on this one havent been paying attention. yes it made a big difference. I used the gas ram out of my Gamo hunter that I converted back to spring. Had it sitting on the shelf so figured what the heck its only a $30 dollar gun if I messed it up. The velocity went from 550-600 to 690's. Even got the 6.9 gr RWS hpoints to go just over 700. It really smoothed out the shot cycle also, compared to the stock spring that was 15+yrs old. The conversion was super easy. I took the spring guide out which is the back cap the the spring compressor pushes against. I cut the guide for the spring off then flipped the cap backwards so the what used to be facing out the back of the gun was facing inwards. I also drilled a hole into it so it would keep the gas piston centered. I installed the gas piston with the biggest end forward so the shaft was facing the back of the gun. Thoebian installs them that way, supposedly better. The conversion was eay. ANd improved the guns velocity and shot cycle. As for accuray I havent shot it past 13 yards. It grouped most within and inch at that range. Im pretty happy with it. I need to take it apart and take pics of how I did everything for everybody here. Hope this answers your questions! Have a good one.
