My Benji Trail will group 3/4" at 25 yd with several different pellets. How far out would you feel comfortable shooting at small game (squirrels, specifically) with a gun of this accuracy level?

Keep shooting it. It will get better. Mine gets sweeter with every shot. Mine is shooting dimes out the 30 yd mark.

I guess the answer is how far out you have tested, and know you can hit a squirrel-sized kill zone.
Not to be a smart ^&* but if I knew it shot 3/4" at 25 yards, I would be comfortable at about 25 yards.
If you want to engage at 40, you would need to test at 40. It's probably fair to say you'd be shooting 1.5" groups at 50 yards (twice the distance, twice the group). There are other factors but probably not a bad rule of thumb.

What he said. If you are shooting benched, try offhand since a lot of shots in the woods are just that. And what pellets have you been shooting at short range? Seems wadcutters will do well close up but don't hold stability past thirty yards or so. For those ranges, domed have been recommended. Lots comes into play - trajectory, retained velocity and stability. As was mentioned, the only sure way to know what you are capable of at any given range is to test and practice, practice, practice (as they say).

Tagged a wabbit at 40 yds from the kneeling position right through the shoulder. point of aim.
Take one of those little 6oz. cans that sliced mushrooms come in and start shooting it. Keep bouncing it out farther and farther. I have a small maple tree that I kneel against and I can hit it every time out to 50 or so.(if I am doing my part).

.75" is a safe bet...
You really only have a 1" zone on squrriels, more than that and your looking at possible runners.
It depends on how consistent you are. I really don't go more than 30 yds on the greys up here in the Northern Adirondaks, but that's because we have super squrriels here.
I've thwacked them in the head at 40 yds. (7-8 FPE) watch them fall 15-20 ft., hit the ground and run away. Never happened at 30 yds or less though.
