Accuracy expectations for BSA Scorpion SE 1107?

I just received a BSA Scorpion SE .177 I saw on the Bargain Gate. This is my first really nice airgun. It came from Amazon so the box looked like
. It looked so bad I thought it was going to be scrap metal and kindling inside but the inner box held the gun pretty secure so I'm hopeful for it. Both the outer and inner box tape was cut and resealed by someone, but the paper / plastic wrappings and tape on the gun itself looked factory and unaltered as far as I can tell. The gun itself show no obvious blemishes or signs of abuse. I need to get on this fast to evaluate it to see if I got someones lemon return or just bad shipping box so I can return it in a timely manner if I need to.
I will use front and rear Caldwell shooting bags for evaluation. I have a variety of pellets I can try. I will be mounting a new Hawke Sidewinder 30 3-12X50. I am able to shoot up to about 45 yards. So, after cleaning with a Crownsaver and Goo Gone:
1. How many pellets to shoot until you consider it "broken in" before grouping it for its favourite pellet?
2. What is the
maximum
size grouping
and
at what distance I should expect to consider it a normal/average gun and not a returned lemon?
3. What is the
maximum
size grouping
and
at what distance I would need to achieve to shoot HFT if its different than answer #2.
Thanks so much guys!

BSA barrels don't seem to be very pellet picky.
With that said I would start off with some jsb or air arms pellets.
it should shoot fine before the barrel gets broken in,
well enough to tell if you got a lemon.
And I would say if it doesnt do better than an inch at 45yds out of the box id send it back,
but thats just me

I've shot one of those a few times and it was very accurate. I loved that gun. It liked JSB 16 or 18's and was regulated. At 45 yards I'd hope for 3/4" - 1" groups at least.
Great choice of gun IMO.

Do you have a chronograph? Have you shot it over the chrono? That's a place to starters some tuning may be in order. I do not have a scorpion but do have a R10 I bought on close out from PA back in July. When I first got the rifle it gave me signs it was very accurate. I just struggled with it. I put a scope level on it and all the sudden it was lights out. I shot the best group I have ever shot, with any kind of gun, about a month ago with the R10. At 52 yards I shot 5 shots thru the same hole with Crosman Premier Heavies. I watched each one of them fly thru the same hole. Not a ragged hole, the same hole. That said I have not been able to do that since but it is always good for less than an inch group at the same range.

Thanks for the replies. I run out of daylight fast this time a year after work so hoping to mount scope tonight and took some time off tomorrow to try shooting it some. Weather tomorrow is supposed to be the best for a while.
@Brazos; I do have a scope level from China I got on the Bargain Gate recently that I will install per your suggestion. I recently got a Chronograph as well; its the plastic green Caldwell one with a light kit. I will set that up in the near future as well if tomorrow goes well.

I have the same scope level on my R10. Also a score from Bargain Gate. I ordered a bunch of them. It took a while to get after I ordered but well worth it. It was a night and day difference on consistant accuracy. I am not new to scope levels and have them on my match rifles. I think the R10 benefits from it because the rifle is so deep from center line of the scope to bottom of stock. It doesn't take much cant to get it out of wack.
