New to air gunning,
I have on order a new Diana RWS 34. I have heard of people cleaning the rifle before use, is there any direction on what needs to be gone over upon receiving?

I got my 34 the other day and I’m already having a blast. Shot around 100 pellets through it today. I got my scope sighted in pretty good for now. I need to get different types of pellets to see what mine is hungry for. The fit and finish of this gun is amazing, far better than some of the firearms I have. I set up a target at 25 yards and I’m grouping just a little over a quarter size. Love this gun, glad I chose it!

Quarter sized groups at 25yds with a new gun, shooter, and not optimized for pellet is VERY good!!!
I suggest some reading and a pellet selection tool for you. Straightshooters.com is an online company too. Their website has a whole host of articles about air gunning that are worth reading. The right-hand column of their home-page is a list of articles. I suggest reading them from top to bottom in order as a starting point. Pay particular attention to the pellet choices and artillery hold discussions. They will help you a lot. If you go to their listing for your rifle they have a discussion of its properties and their opinion of the best use under a tab called OUR TAKE. It also includes results that they got with an rifle right out of the box with numerous pellets that they chronographed. They don't report accuracy as there are too many variables that are shooter related.
The also sell a pellet sampler kit that is unique. It will have 18 of the "best" pellets of various weights and vendors for testing with your rifle. They put 25 of each in a bin so you can try them out without breaking your bank. Cost is about $50 including shipping. The pellets cost about $35 but the shipping is high because he has found that cheap shipping leads to a broken plastic box and a mix of pellets that is useless to you. I talked to him about the issue earlier. Unfortunate but true!!
Have fun and shoot safely! These things are more powerful than you think!!

I have noticed that straight shooters only sell pellets with the best ratings OMO

Congratulations on your new Diana 34. You have an excellent air rifle with really good accuracy. Just shoot it a lot for practice and have fun. When you do get to the point you want to do a tear down for a good inspection, clean and re-lube, it is a very simple gun to take down. Enjoy it and have fun.

Buy the right pellets, so get a sample pack from H&N, RWS and JSB.
What caliber did you bought ? I have owned a 34 in .22 and really liked the JSB Exact 5.51mm.

I took the stock off today, lubed the cocking pin (I think that’s what it’s called) and loosened it slightly, put some grease on the spring, put the stock back on and tighter it back up good. Then I made some scope adjustments to get my eye relief better and the crosshairs straight. Sighting it back in now.
I went with the .22
All I have shot are the Crosman premier pointed pellets so far. Don’t have any other brands In The stores by me so I will have to order some different ones. I’ve head bad things about ordering pellets from amazon though, is that right?

I have never ordered pellets from Amazon, so I can't speak to that. But I have ordered many form Pyramid Air and can tell you that they do an EXCEPTIONAL job of packing them so that they do not get damaged in shipping. They have so many pellet options it will make your head spin too. Every rifle is different for sure. But I have had great accuracy results with the RWS Super H-Points 14.2g. Just have to shoot them and see what your D34 likes.

There have been numerous complaints about Amazon's packaging of pellets here in the GTA. I've not personally ordered any from them, but given how all my other packages have arrived, I will not be buying pellets from them. Pyramyd sends them in foam cut outs to fit the tins. I keep them for putting the tins in my pistol bags with the guns.

Keep checking your stock screws. They have a mysterious way of loosening themselves. How they do it I do not know?

My two most likely best recommendations for pellets would be H&N FTT in 4.52 head size and Crosman Premier Lights 7.9 grain (in the brown box). Both of those should shoot great. Amazon is hit or miss on packaging, mostly miss, but I have ordered pellets from Amazon that were shipped from Pyramyd Air and packaged as such. The two pellets above have a little harder lead and thicker skirts and can withstand some shipping mishaps and come out perfectly fine. Pyramyd Air or their other company, Airgun Depot, do the best, by far, when it comes to properly packaging pellets to ship.
When it comes to cleaning I typically use a patch on weed eater line with Goo-Gone applied (not Goof-Off!). Goo-Gone won't degrade orings but now that I am older and smarter I think a lot of degrading orings is BS in cases like the RWS 34. I mean the only oring is the breach seal oring that you can buy a box of 10 from Home Depot for $2.50 and swap out in 3 seconds. I can't imagine using Hoppie's #9 would degrade the oring (no more than we clean air rifles) but if it did who cares as it is cheap and quick to swap out. No matter how you clean expect some fliers until you have shot enough to blow out the solvents and lead the barrel back up. Sometimes, depending on the rifle, it may take 100-200 shots (some rifle just a handful of shots). Point is don't panic if your rifle shots like &^^& right after cleaning.

My 34 likes H&N Baracuda Match best followed closely by FTT, both in 4.51 head size. My advice would be to buy some sampler packs and spend a little time on the bench.

Brazos,
Do you have a part # for the orings from Home Depot? Are they in plumbing?

Congratulations on the D34 I have owned two sold the first because I did not like the synthetic stock and the second was a fixer upper that I gave to my father inlaw last year for Christmas both were .22 and both were easy to shoulder and shoot well off hand with practice and patience

congratulations jake!
You chose the .22, good for hunting and easier to load in the frigid temps we have here.
I have a 34 in .177 so i can't recomend a specific pellet to try, but use what you can find during the breaking in period before going crazy buying the expensive pellets.
Plano walmart carries more .177 than .22, but they usually have the Crosman Premier Hollowpoints (CPHP) in stock.
I've found mine not to be too picky, maybe you'll have the same luck?
We'll have to get together for a plinking session some day.
Oh, and remember NEVER fire it without a pellet in the breech!
