I am using the UTG one piece mount, which is real solid on my TX200.
I have a new TX200 and need to drop some glass on top. The problem I find is most rings that are 3/8-11mm rated appear to attach in the TX dovetail very poorly. There does not seem to be enough precise dovetail form to get the clamping force I think it would need. Maybe it’s just the machinist in me looking how poorly an extruded base dovetail form sits inside the TX dovetail. What brand or style of rings have you fellas been having the best results with? Are any of you using droop compensated rings? If all else fails, I just might remachine the dovetail form of a set of rings to a more precise dimension so it fits better. Am I over reacting?Comments???
I use BLK 2 piece mounts. The TX deserves a nice mount (and glass).
BKL 2piece mounts take a certain technique to install. If done correctly they hold solid. You can do searches (Straightshooters.com developed this) but briefly take the rings out of the box, then figure out where you want to mount them. Then take the rings back off and tighten the rail screws down. Then loosen them up and pop them into place where you want them and tighten down. Kind of hard to describe but you will know if you did it right as they will be firmly in place before you tighten them down. If you do that they won't budge on a spring rifle. If you put them on a PCP this step is not necessary.
Well, I finally had a chance to give the TX some time this past weekend. I finalized the mount on a UTG one piece base with the lock pin and topped it off with rings of a medium height of the same brand. I found an old Centerfire scope with some mill dots that came off a muzzle loader. I chose this scope because I heard it is rated for springers and I didn’t want to risk any others I had laying around. I have an old short leg folding ironing board with a felt top that works so nice for a portable shooting bench. With my harbor freight roller chair with adjustable height, I can find any sweet spot for shooting off of bags. I can report the TX worked great. I was at about 30-40 yards and could touch holes with 22 cal. Crosman premium Wally World 14.3gr. Tried other heavier ammo and they didn’t perform nearly as well. Looks like I found my new fall scout rifle for squirreling around the farm.
