XS28 questions

I just acquired a XS28 full tuned by Mike today. It was purchased by a friend of mine a couple of years ago, and has not had 50 pellets shot through it. When I picked it up today it was cocked. Don,t know how long but was cocked. The owner says it was for a week or so but dozen,t know for sure. I was given a tin of pellets with it and it seemed to shoot them hard. Should I have something to worry about. I will shoot it through my chronicle and check fps. Also sights were removed and can,t be found, is there a muzzle brake that can be used on this gun. Thanks for any input. Mike

If the power's still there the spring is probably fine.
If you want to shoot with open sights contact Mike at Flying Dragon Air Rifles - he may have sights available. You could also post a request on the Member Classified Gate here.

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing some research and it isn't,t really a big deal. Might have a little power loss if any at all. I will talk with Mike about it. Thinking of just leaving the sights of and getting something on the muzzle. Just put on a Center Point AO scope and will see how she does. Mike

I've never had (or seen) an XS-28. If it were me I'd probably start with some cheap pellets like the Crosman Premier Hollow Points and go from there.
I never caught the caliber of the gun and people familiar with them may actually have recommendations.

Mike,
That's roughly the power my full tune XS-28 makes with the .25 barrel on it. So you're good.

Taos thanks also for the reply. I got this gun from a buddy of mine and it had been left cocked. Maybe for a week and was worried about the spring, don,t think there's a problem. Replaced the breech seal had a Nick in it and my groups were stringing all over the place, New seal new gun. It still needs to be broken in as it dozen,t Evan have 100 pellets through it yet.Should get better. Mike

I have a XS28 in 25 cal that was tuned by Mike Melick. It was bought second hand as well and had a good bit of twang in it when fired. I bought a vortek SHO kit for a RWS 350 ( XS28 is a RWS 350 clone ) with the Pro seal that is moly impregnated. Stock it was shooting the JSB 25 grain pellets at 660 fps and after the vortek kit its now at 690 fps and shoots almost one hole groups at 25 yards all day. The shot cycle is much less has less vibration and no twang with the kit and recoils about the same as most 22 cal spring guns. I also added there muzzle break on mine for an extra couple of inches for added cocking leverage. Its not really to bad cocking and about the same as a crosman gas ram gun and is smooth as butter.

I have shot from H&N Field target trophy 19.91 grains at 760fps, JSB 25.39 at 690fps, H&N barracudas at 630fps and JSB 33.95 at 580 fps. All give close to the same 26fpe give or take some. The 25.39s are the most accurate out of my XS28 but you need to test with yours since your results may vary. All pellets were accurate out to 25 yards but the 25s did better past 25 yards out to 45 to 50 yards with 1 inch groups.
Definitely as Taso said whatever pellet is the most accurate will do best. My gun has a good bit of barrel droop so I have a RWS C lockdown mount on it since its adjustable for windage and elevation. They are not made anymore but if needed put out a "wanted to buy" in the classifieds and should find one pretty easy.

I have at least 20 different .177 pellets for accuracy testing. I only had Benjamin domes in .25. Now that I got my Xisico Sentry operational and quiet I ordered 4 different types from PA.
I played around with my XS-28 last night with the .177 barrel. It's not as hard to cock as I remember or I'm not as wimpy as I was before! lol
I think I'm gonna see what pellets it likes along with the Sentry, accuracy wise.

My main concern was this rifle was left cocked, possibly for a week to a couple. Shoots pretty hard to me but in the back of my mind I keep thinking about it being left cocked. Bugs the !!!! Out of me. Mike

It's fine and shooting in the normal range. I would just shoot it plus if it is a full tune Mike will fix it free. If you tear into the rifle it will void the warranty.
If it loses power or the spring breaks it should be covered. I've never had to send anything to Mike for warranty work so I don't know how that is handled.
I am pretty sure his warranty is transferable.
Thanks,
Taso

Taos thanks for putting my mind at ease. Shot it quite a bit tonight at a few dog food cans at about the fifty yard mark, got to see what it has and very pleased. Thanks again. Mike
