A really simple question from a Newb

Hi Folks, I am new to serious air guns, having come into a B3 through a weird circumstance. I am trying to figure out if it is a 5mm or 5.5 [.22]. A regular .177 BB rolled right through the barrel, so I know it is not that. It looks like from what I could find, that it was not built in 5mm so my question is this: can I just use a .22 LR bullet to check the muzzle to see if it is a .22 or is there a major problem with doing that? I know enough not to jam it in there. Or should I just buy some .22 pellets and try them, I don't want to jam up the rifle. Thanks

You could probably try fitting a .22 long rifle into the muzzle. That should give you an idea of the caliber. Your B3 will be either .177 or .22. Note - the .22 rimfire is actually larger than .22" in diameter. It will be more like .222" or possibly even .223"
Another possibility would be seeing what size shank of a drill bit would fit. You could then do the math to see what size it is. By that I mean 1/4" = .25". An 11/64" bit at .172 should fit into a .177 barrel. The 7/32" bit is almost .22 so it should fit the .22 barrel but would not fit a .177.
