Title: TX200 Popping
Post by: Elo76 on January 16, 2019, 09:57:02 PM
Been shooting my TX200 alot going through the pellet selection process and today, when returning the cocking lever, it occasionally is making a popping noise.  It's like the seal is suctioned to it and pops when you return the cocking lever.

This gun is vortek tuned.  It was stripped of all lube and I'm using krytox 205.

Is this normal?  Anything to worry about? Or should I get back in there and put a light coat of 205 in the sleeve?

Might be some excess lube that got out in front of the main seal and pooled up in a ring around the base of your comp tube.

Do you think I should get back in there and take a look?  I used that 205 very sparingly.  I have around 500 shots through it after the tune.

Upon going into full cocked position  ... depressing anti-bear trap, is there ANY resistance in moving the cocking lever ?

If there is & where you hear/feel this pop ... you may indeed be drawing the piston seal off the end of piston ???

When I do hear the pop, there is some slight resistance.  Reminds me of a weak suction cup.  I can take it apart later today.  If this is the issue, what can I do to fix it?  Everything seems to be working fine otherwise as you can see from my pellet thread.

If the seal is getting pulled off the pistons wedge mounting spud, a visual inspection will indeed show damage to the seals backside where upon firing would be impacting itself back onto the seal.
If seal is sitting there in pristine condition it is likely a case of suction created by the seal being stuck to roof of compression chamber because ot grease / lube on the face of seal.

Sorta WAGing here ???

Seal looks fine.  There seemed to be some grease that was around the top edge of the comp tube.  Cleaned it up and all is good now.

Well...the popping came back.  I took it apart again and this is what I found.  Seems to be the gasket/oring from the comp tube and not grease.  I cut it off with an exacto and hit the area lightly with a gray scotch brite pad.  The popping is gone for now.  I'm going to talk to PA about getting a new comp tube.  I tried to tighten it thinking it was loose but couldn't budge it.

What's everyone's thoughts?  Just get a new tube?

Yes, definitely get a new comp tube.  It's not worth the hassle of uninstalling the TP from the comp tube to install a new o-ring in there.  Although it's probably still sealed, it's definitely an irritation.  Really, Air Arms quality control...  :-\

The END CAP screws on and "THAT" o-ring seals it ... with the o-ring damaged your guaranteed compression leakage !!
Replace the o-ring should be an easy fix ... IIRC there 1mm cross section which should be a 1x23 mm.
PA should be able to confirm & supply it ... if not take apart, measure.

** metric o-rings sell by there I.D. & cross section.

With a 25mm bore piston that should be right ... ???

What type of oring material would you use for this?
