I love using a single shot tray when doing quick velocity checks of different pellets. And also because one of my fav. pellets won't fit in a Marauder magazine, namely Crosman Penetrator's, (I love this pellet, but it's a real "penetrator" and is tough to "stop"!). I bought a single shot tray on ebay and it fit perfect but like most OEM shot trays, it didn't extend out far enough (for me) to allow easy loading of any pellets, the smaller the pellet the worse it was to load. I was determined to figure out a solution w/o having to buy a different tray.
My wife bought a glue gun years ago and I was skeptical on how well it would work for things I needed to fix. It works great for some things and not for others. But I'm here to tell you that it works awesome for adding a extension to a single shot tray...a pellet ramp. I initially added a ramp/extension to both sides but soon realized (duh!) it would only really work adding it to the right side of the tray. I used some masking tape and created a 4-sided hollow tray (2 sides/bottom/end) onto the shot tray. The height of the extension is variable based on height of tape added. The nice thing is if you don't add enough glue or remove too much during the sanding/shaping you don't have to start over, just add tape and more glue. And if you think, like I did, that the glue wouldn't adhere well to the tray or be strong enough...I can tell you that it sticks so well you'll need a X-acto blade to chop it off, pulling or breaking it off is pretty hard to do. Of course it probably depends on the shot tray being used, but the tray I used looks to be fabricated from a 3D-printer and offered a great surface for the glue to adhere to. The most tedious part is sanding and shaping. It's is a slow process using small rasp files. A bench sander works well but causes the glue to melt as it's sanded.
But after a while it came together and works great. You can shape the extension to act as a "ramp" and you can add a "subtle" groove to the center of the ramp to help smaller pellets roll down while giving longer pellets flat edges to roll down. Also, you don't have to worry about matching the barrel side edge to the contour of the pellet tray. I just made sure it was narrower than the shot tray along al three edges. And then you can color it, with a permanent marker, any color you desire!
It looks a bit rough I admit, but that's only because the glue won't sand smooth. But this thing works really well!
