1st Rat of the New Year!

And, he was a monster!  I've been watching a couple smaller rats come and go over the past couple days, but it's been so cold I didn't want to open the window of the Man Cave and let the chill in, so I just let them be.  But, this evening, this monster showed up and and motivated me to weather the weather and see if I could get a shot at him!  I did and he's now just a mere memory of himself!



Confessions:  There were two coyotes at the feed station two nights ago, so today I set up the Impact with a .30 cal barrel.  It was still in the Death Grip from when I zeroed and tuned it earlier today.  So, this little 4.5 ounce rat met the rath of a 50 grain pellet traveling at 900 feet per second!  That's around 90 foot pounds of energy being dissipated inside 4.5 ounces of rat!  I was really surprised there wasn't more external damage, but I can only imagine what it did to his insides!  This monster was 11 inches long, which is huge for a Cotton Rat!

A tad bit of overkill on the rat, but I'm ready if those Yotes show up again!

Thank you Hunter!  I guess I need to check out my chrony, I thought it showed 45 FPE, but it was mounted upside down under the barrel, so maybe it was 94 FPE and I thought it was showing 46 FPE!

Paul! Freaking daisy cutters that was an excellent shot on a ratzilla! Good thing you had the .30 Impact at the ready because he would have laughed off a .177-.25 cals, probably would have just deflected off that BEAST! He might have charged at you, gone str8 thru the window, might have been gruesome....😂! Plus he scared off that massive red headed pterodactyl, not an easy thing to do! Anyhow, I am hoping to see a video with a yote taking a JSB offering from you! YES!

He might have charged at you, gone str8 thru the window, might have been gruesome....😂! Plus he scared off that massive red headed pterodactyl, not an easy thing to do! Anyhow, I am hoping to see a video with a yote taking a JSB offering from you! YES!

Thank you kindly, Randall!  I'm not sure where that monster came from, but I'm glad I was able to dispatch him before he established a driving ratzilla population in my back yard!  As for the red headed pterodactyls, they are everywhere, but they get a pass because they add some color to an otherwise drab landscape!

I'm sure you'll catch up and surpass me pretty quickly once you get set-up with the ATN and Kral!  I'm surprised you haven't received the replacement ATN yet, if they replace it, they usually ship pretty quick!

Ha! You definitely avoided a major catastrophe! Yeah, those red-headed pterodactyls are very beautiful as long as they don't smell blood...😂👍

Great shot on the monster rat Paul!!  Great way to test the zero on the .30 cal. and get ready for the coyotes. 

I can't believe the muzzle rise when you took the shot.  When I dial up the Condor .25's to 90fpe I get a small recoil/muzzle rise but nothing like I saw in the video.  It must be the heaver pellet.  I use 43gr EunJin pellets.  Oh btw a "tad overkill" is fine even when it's way overkill

LOL!  Thank you Harry!  I'm shooting 50.15 grain JSB pellets, so yea, it is a tad bit of over kill, but I do know zero is good!

 Paul, I got an email stating my return was delivered to Miami on Thursday. So I can only hope that the tech staff is doing the firmware update as promised &
 that is what may be delaying my replacement , which was supposed to be a NEW 4K Pro not a reconditioned model. We'll see...

 Well , I finally got started on '25's rat tally. Weather was calm & about 30 deg.s. last evening. I still have the ATN LTV scope on the Kral NP03 as the 4K replacement hasn't
 appeared yet. The cows weren't cooperating by just lying down out of the way and a few insisted on shuffling over for a look see/ sniff / tongue taste. I did get
 a shot at one coming down the stone wall, hit it mid stride and it flipped end over end into a"soft spot" where it remains today. After a while i spotted another on the round bale rack and missed it clean! The cloud cover lifted & the moon lit up the area almost like daylight so I decided to move to the old original barn no.1 for a while. The farmhands fed there late in the day & the cows were still feeding heavily so that was a bust.
