I almost forgot the joy of a beater air rifle, until I was out shooting with my kids yesterday. We used an old Daisy pump, laid it in the grass between target re-sets. Didn't carefully oil it when we were done, and then I remembered the Daisy 880 from my youth.
It stayed leaned in the corner of the garage by the side door. It got shot almost daily, or several times a day. It shot numerous pigeons, and my first ever rabbit.
After getting back in to air guns, and getting an HW, I lost some of that. I think my next gun may have to be a "Beater", one that is always ready, and gets shot daily, because I don't have to have the time to clean it up, and carefully put it away back in the gun storage when done (don't worry I still store it safe now that I have kids.)
Any recomendations?

Having a cheap beater myself, Ruger Air Hawk, does take a lot of the concerns out of the mix. It is still nice enough that I wipe down after each use. Not much more than that. A gun that has caught my interest in this beater/plinker category is the IZH 61/60.
Small, light weight, accurate , adjustable stock, low price and composite materials seem like a good recipe for a beater . Might make a good introductory airgun for the grand children and a grab and go for the back yard matches when friends are over.

Just bought this 880 from Academy Sports. I got lucky and got a good one!

I love my old beat up b2 and it gets used as much as any air gun I have. My kids and I shot this group with it a couple weeks ago at 30'.

Been seeing a lot of "good" daisy 880's lately. Could it be, possibly, that the 880 is just good, period? 8)

A good old AG IS like a well worn pair of jeans........comfortable and always there.

One of the things with a "beater" is that it is already "beat up," so to speak.
So you don't get up tight and cranky about another scratch on it.
You just USE it like a tool.
That is the role my Daisy 953 and Gamo Delta plays.
They are not high dollar, glossy finished rifles, they are utilitarian.
I guess it comes back to my simple roots. My parents were not rich, so I had functional stuff, not "fancy" stuff that I have to be CAREFUL not to scratch/damage. To this day, I do not like handling crystal or china in the kitchen, I worry too much about breaking one of them.

I think the all time King of "Beater" status should go to the Fabulous B3's .
Those things you can let slide around in the Bed of a pick-up,
Bungee cord it straight to an ATV rack, and ride in dust, mud, water,
Toss it in behind the seat of your truck,...
If shoots any differently then the last time, you just stick the barrel into the trailer hitch, and give it a little ** tweak **. :o

I have both the 880 and an IZH-61. They are both amazingly fun. If I want to shoot for accuracy or for "serious" I shoot my TF87, but if I just want to have fun I pull out the little 61 and start ripping through pellets. I can put 250 pellets downrange before I even look up to see what time it is (I have little kids, and knowing the time is IMPERATIVE TO LIVING). The 880 is super fun too, and even more accurate than the 61, but the pumping makes follow-up shots a little too slow

I count my QB57 as my beater.
Factory second $40 gun complete with scrapes and cracks on the stock.
Take down and stuff it behind the truck seat .
Also useful as a boat anchor if I had a boat.
Doesn't shoot too bad at short range.
