Title: Crosman Phantom VS Beeman Dual Caliber- Which to buy?
Post by: Shawnzx on May 12, 2011, 08:21:13 PM
I am selling my target gun, as I'm getting one next year for free under ROTC, and which the money I'm wanting to buy a new gun in .177.

I first looked at the Crosman Phantom seeing how i'd had one before. I also am considering the Beeman Dual Caliber gun, which comes with a .22 caliber barrel and a .177, along with a scope. The Phantom is $80 and the Beeman is $98.

I'm only going to be using either gun in .177, as I use my Titan for .22s. I'm worried that the Beeman's barrel might come loose on me and effect accuracy.

It'd be best from people who have both guns, but all comments are welcome

I have heard a few people had problems with the Beeman barrel coming loose, but the majority haven't had the problem. My brother-in-law loves his, and has had no problems with it.
It is a much better looking airgun than the Phantom imho, but the Phantom is a great shooter too.If  you ever wanted to shoot .22 you would'nt have to buy another airgun. Both airguns are loved by many. This is tough...

GET THEM BOTH! [you knew that was coming, right?] ;D

Good luck on your decision.

I've owned both and its a tough call.  But I give the edge to the Phantom because I love the stock.  You could also swap it out for a summitt stock if you want.  The phantom is an accurate shooter and one you could do some upgrades to.

RS2 is nice but its heavier and the barrell may be an issue down the road.  I used loctite on mine as I think most people do.

Both good buys so you can't go wrong with either!

I own the RS2, locktite on the barrel screw, never had an issue. Mine likes the cheap CPHP ammo, which is just fine by me. I use it with the open sights, for the money this a great gun with a lot of power.

RS2 has a true 2 stage trigger. Never had problem with barrel coming loose, need to shim the breech o-ring to get to full power. The airgun shoots hard so expect adult effort to cock it but once you find your mojo in cocking her..no sweat. I lubed tuned my RS2 and comparing it to my Crosman G-1 & Sierra Pro, it's much smoother to shoot with almost same power.

I think the beeman is a good choice. I just got one the other day I haven’t had the opportunity to do any accuracy tests yet but I have been doing some close shooting into a block of wood. The trigger feels reel good out of the box and can be adjusted. You can easily take the trigger and sears out and clean them up also as I did with mine and it feels smooth as glass. It cocks much harder than my old gamo 890 but shoots much smoother with only half the recoil. All in all I would say that my $98 dollar walmart beeman is 2x as nice as the gamo that I paid $259, which I have sold off a while ago because I hated to shoot.

Buy the Beeman, if you don't like it, bring back to Wallyworld and exchange it for a Phantom.
