New "airgun" on the way

Sort of a coincidence of events led me to this discovery...sort of airgun related but too borderline to post anywhere else...
About a week ago some local "urban youths" (why do I want to pronounce that like Joe Pesci? Yutes! ) got arrested for shooting people with water pellets. I asked myself "What the **** are "water pellets?" and promptly forgot all about it.
Meanwhile... the most recent batch of squirrels has discovered my bird feeder and they get on it and hog the goods, defeating the purpose. I have taken basic steps to deter them, but this batch is more determined than most have been. Of course, I have the means to permanently deter them, but the offense doesn't rate capital punishment just yet...
Trying to decide on a non-lethal deterrent...and fun for me... I remembered the "water pellets." Research shows it's a type of gun, in the vein of airsoft, but shoots balls of water. Splatterball is one common name for it. At first I thought it was a thin membrane filled with water, like a paintball, but no -- it's a sphere of highly absorbent stuff, like what's in diapers, which when soaked in water, expands to about 7mm. It goes splat on contact, and the residue is generally safe and biodegradable. Apparently kids are encouraged to shoot the carp out of each other with these -- vaguely safer than hard airsoft bbs I guess, and way less painful than paintballs...
There are some single-shot manual guns, but most are electric semi or full auto, feeding from a top hopper. Some are obscenely expensive replicas. A few use CO2, the ones I'm looking at use an electric motor to compress air somehow. Velocity looks to be in the 100 to 400 fps range. The pellets weigh about .2 grams, or 3 grains, so it's only 1 FPE or less..."safe" to shoot at just about anything.
Looks like fun, whether it works on the squirrels or not...

Pic -- they aren't all this hideous but I just wanted cheap for proof of concept...

All kinds of shooting is fun… I don’t care if it’s a gun, if it’s got a trigger on it it’s fun.

I saw a bazillion styles, many of which look very real. Some have what I think is a conveyor type system built into a bottom-loading "magazine" to get rid of the hideous top hopper. They also have "sniper" rifles, but the range and accuracy was horrendous for the money they are asking.
The M16 is pretty cool looking!
