Reccomendations for sleep aid
«

I just can't sleep. It is off an on, I go througk phases. Right now I just can't sleep.
Downrange, I'd stay awake for most of a rotation in the valley (2-3 weeks) and take about 10-12 benadryl a night to sleep every night in the rear (3 days to a week).
I had a good brother and fellow squad leader, to get me out of the coma in the mornings, lol.
Right now my pain is worse than ever, plus I couldn't sleep well to begin with.
I'd since gotten away from the benadryl. I saw the doc, he asked me if i was self medicating, I said not for now, he saod then it aint that bad.. hey!?
So i have had half a gallon if sangria so fat plus I took 8 benadryl over 2 hours ago. I am not marginally tired. Also took my celebrex and tylenol. Not marginally tired and i'm hurting, and drunker than cooter brown. Which I don't like to be.
Recommenadtion please!

I don’t have any recommendations but I do have a word of caution. A guy I work with had troubles sleeping for a while so he started taking NyQuil every night. He took more than what was recommended and he had bad kidney problems. If I’m not mistaken he was in the hospital for a few days from it. Just be careful with whatever you try and don’t over do it. Be safe, all the way.

It might not sound right, but Alka Seltzer Plus Cold and Flu Night Time. The fizzy tablets, not the hot drink or caplets. Puts me right to sleep.

Are you in pain, is that why you can't get to sleep?
I go through phases of not sleeping well, but am paranoid taking anything for sleep, but do take paracetamol to help get into a better sleep.
Anti histamine medication can help make you sleepy. Looking at tablet screens can keep you awake.
Anyway, hope you find sleep.

Kratom. The red stuff. Make sure to ask for the relaxation stuff. Others do the opposite.

Have you seen anyone for PTSD?
While I don't suffer from it, I have a friend who does. He sought help and is doing better.
I feel for you with the pain, as many here know, I would self-medicate with Jim Beam. But I understand that is not ...well... optimal.
Especially when it got to the point I could not even "drink myself to sleep" with a pint after work. When I got to the 750ml I quite that route.
My latest bout was with Nightmares, and believe it or not, stopping Tea cured that.
Along the way, a couple of things I learned... they may seem obvious but maybe will help you too.
Caffeine at supper, stop it. I am a coffee drinker, and was drinking it almost all day until evening and would then switch to Mt. Dew. I now have 2-3 cups in the morning only and a Dew with lunch, after that, water or juice. That's 5-6 hours before bed time without it.
Mental stimulus, shut off the TV and electronics well before bed time (hour). dive your mind time to wind down. I don't even sleep with the TV on anymore.
Any medication you will build a tolerance to. Try changing instead of increasing the dosage. Tylenol PM (Diphenhydramine) is effective, but only for a while... then try Unisom Sleep Tabs (doxylamine succinate). Melatonin did nothing for me either.

As you know, to get your body tired doing exercises would be a great way, including other advantages, but I don’t know about your pain. Maybe you could try acupuncture regarding the physical pain?
To help to sleep, I know people here that use Rivotril (clonazepam), but it needs a Doctor prescription (and eventual supervision) because, depending on your organism, clonazepam may have some contraindications.

Sounds simple but, buy a new pillow.
I changed to a "My Pillow" in an act of desperation, and surprisingly it works.
A bit pricey, $50, for a cloth bag of foam chunks but so far it works.
I've experienced deep and extended sleep from Dramamine, original formula.
I have the same response from the newer "Non Sleepy Formula", meclizine hydrochloride.
It takes a few hours to really hit me but then it's lights out for a long time.
But the dopey feeling is hard to eliminate for days after.
I always sleep in a dark, cool room with no electronics.
Drop off to sleep within 5 minutes and normally sleep for 3-4 hours, sometimes longer now with the new pillow.
Try to keep your chores and plans out of your mind, they are sleep killers.
Drug free when possible.
I sleep alone...

Please consider a sleep study. I know you are having trouble going to sleep, but a sleep study will give you a wealth of information that will help you out. If I have a need for a sleep aid...Walmart's Equate works good for me.

Doc told me not to expect to be able to sleep when I'm in pain, and just accept it's normal not to. That was the best advice ever. All the worry about not sleeping was keeping me awake at night.
Now I read a book to help me relax. As soon as my eyes feel heavy, I shut off the lights and zonk out.
Good luck!

Biscuit and gravy, bacon and a large glass of milk works everytime.
Drinking to sleep ain't the answer. The first time I went to an Army shrink with my problems the first question out of his mouth was,"How much do you drink?" Three days later I was in Trac 3. I had plenty of company. Three other E7 got there same day I did.
Some pain I've had to learn to live with. Back hips and legs kill me some times when I walk. Doc's said it was poor circulation. They were wrong. I think it's from to many miles humpin' to big a ruc.
