As I started to prepare for our October match I figured that we would set a more challenging course than usual as this was our last match before the Nationals in October. I expected to see several of our West Coast representatives at the match tuning up for the championship. As it turned out we had 5 of the 10 left coasters going to the nationals join us.
We had another great weather day, beautiful sunny skis, light to moderate winds but HOT. Thank goodness humidity is never an issue here as the highs for the day were around 95 degrees and the sun was relentless. The beautiful weather brought out a lot of shooters and we started the match with 27 shooters. Good friends Wayne Burns and Randy Ebersole made the trip down from Oregon to add some diversity to their training regimen and we were happy to have them join us.
It turns out the course I set ended up having a 28.2 Troyer score, but it sure seemed to shoot more difficult than that. The winds while subtle, with the exception of two lanes, seemed to play havoc moving many shots far more than one allowed. I know I was fooled on at least 4 shots. The competition was friendly and fierce at the same time. RandyE who finished early with a great score, added some pressure to Riz and Lonnie's final lane when he told them that they had to clean their last lane to beat him. It must have worked as both dropped one shot and ended tied with Randy. There was a log jam of great scores near the top as 7 shooters finished within 2 shots of each other. However there was one shooter who ran away from the field as SonL finished the day with a score of 56/58 beating the field by 4 shots. Son is having a great year shooting and has finished at or near the top of every match he has shot.
A big thank you to all the shooters who showed up early and helped with the course set up. My right hand man Scott S was on vacation and I really needed the help I received. A special thanks to JackC for transporting the targets and course setup equipment in Scott's absence, no targets no match
Below are the scores for the match and a few pictures I managed to take during the day.
