I'm not sure what to make of my results here. Both pellets were fired about an inch away from the candle. Both pellets went as far into the candle, except one smashed as flat as a manhole cover and one just expanded a good bit. They were Crosman Premier Hollow Points. The manhole cover like one is out of the Crosman Vantage NP (recently tuned and accidentally left too much lube in the chamber so it's been dieseling ) and the minorly expanded one is from my Beeman Kodiak X2, which is probably a little in need of a tune--it's had a few thousand shot cycles since I got it out of the box.
Seems like a really wide difference in expansion, but I don't know if I should assume the Kodiak is shooting slow or that the Vantage is just dieseling a bit still. Smells kinda like something is still burning on each shot to me...

I'd say it's the dieseling. Both show pretty good expansion from a CPHP, a very hard pellet.

Yeah I finally figured out how to get the Kodiak X2 apart and the seal and springs don't look bad off so I don't think it lost power.
I wonder if I should just keep shooting the Vantage until it stops dieseling or try to open it back up and clean it? It's not dieseling AS BAD as it was. I accidentally dry-fired it and sounded like a powder burner :/ So I'm guessing this real nice seal I got for it is probably pretty toast.
I didn't think I used that much lube in there... Also I didn't think super-moly paste was supposed to diesel?
