I enjoyed the read - thanks for going to the trouble. I guess no manufacturer is perfect.
Hi Hector, Where can replacement EMS barrels be purchased, and are .22 carbine length available? Thank you!
To continue the conversation . When i bought my Diana 340 N Tech I was a enthralled with it. A few faults but it was a Diana . I got a few rabbits with it even although it dieseled. I contacted the supplier and the concensus was to keep shooting; so I did . It got to the stage that I was wondering how I missed that shot. So i put it in the cupboard for a while and picked uo my trusty Gamo then i read this thread . After about 2k pellets through the 340 the barrel shot after shot was filled with smoke . Then I got some paper out and the groups were inconsistent . Then I read Hector's blog . Sure enough I have an inconsistent barrel: tight then very lose then tight. On top of that I think the piston seal is burnt from all the dieseling.I have contacted the dealer and he said to send it back so that he can dismantle it to see what is wrong So thank you Hector and the rest of you this has been a good thread even though i have gone off beam a bit.
To keep you posted. My Diana 340 N-tech went back to the dealer. He cleaned out the excess oil and replaced the piston seal. He also tightened the barrel pivot. Maybe a little too tight because there is some resistance when closing the barrel. However it is shooting much better than before it was serviced. I am getting plenty of same hole shots from the bench at 27 metres. Still a few fliers that I can not say with certainty that they are not very average shooter error . There is still the tight spot in the barrel near the breach, slack in the middle and tight for the last 30 mms before the muzzle.I do not know if this is cause to claim a defective barrel or not. Coincidentally the dovetail that holds the foresight is about 30 mms long. It is pressed into the barrel whereas others are ground in. Maybe the pressing of the dovetail has deformed the muzzle to form a defacto choke or maybe not. I just don't know and do not have any tools that could make a measurement. The really good bits are that the TO6 trigger is very good and the N-Tech shot cycle is calm and buzz free. In the meantime I am just going to shoot it and shoot it and shoot it and see how things develop..
Thank you Hector. I started a little comparative test to compare the D340 with my other rifles. Had to stop as we are in the middle of a weather war thunder lightning heavy rain Ah well the drought is over and the water tanks are full.
I have been reading a lot of stories here lately about DIANA having barrel or accuracy issues, it makes me think about several years back when Diana swapped its barrel manufacture over seas to CHINA on the 34's and 350mags, having owned a few 34's new back then and seeing the results of barrels that were not up to GERMAN standards because of out sourcing these are the results and the same complaint I saw back then!!!!
Diana 34 EMS LoA version received from Midway two of these, one for grandson #1. and one to play with myself. Both barrels have a slight bit of choke the last couple of inches. Thanks to Hector one now has the very nice front sight. Accuracy with both rifles is very good, easy 1/2 " groups at 25 yds one with bug buster and other with bushnell trophy. Hopefully we will see the bad barrel issues as an anomaly steve
Drew, no issues with pellet size tho both rifles like FTT in 4.50 and 4.51. They also do well with Superdomes. Neither seems the least bit fussy about what they are fed.steve
