I had not shot the 350 .177 in a while. Probably 2 months, so I decided to do some target shooting and maybe try my luck at a nutter with it. I have not scoped it yet because it shoots a little rough. I wanted to to get it pro-tuned with a Vortek kit before I scoped it but have been procrastinating.
I set up a quick rest on the window sill in my porch around 4pm and had loaded the first pellet. I was looking at the 17yd target trying to focus my eyes on the bullseye on the paper before I took my first shot when I heard a noise up in the trees. Could it be another nutter? This is around the same time I got the one yesterday. I looked up and didn't see anything. I then looked straight ahead and ~4yds past my target was a big Gray making its way down the tree trunk. It was the same tree I shot the one yesterday (and many others). Luckily I was closer to the tree today in the porch and wasn't shooting from the house window farther back.
This was all dejavous for me. I had shot a lot of nutters on that tree trunk with my old 350 .22 on open sights 3yrs ago! I took the safety off and followed the squirrel down the side of the tree with the iron sights. It stopped about 3ft off the ground and then it could have spotted me because it stopped and turned around facing up. I aimed at its head and squeezed. I missed! It went right over its head and I think I saw the impact of the 9.3gr RWS Supermag on the hill behind it. I forgot it shoots about 1" high at 15yds because I have run out of adjustment with the open sights. This squirrel was about 20-21yds out so the POI was probably even higher. I reloaded another SuperMag wadcutter and took aim again after the big Gray went a few steps higher. I could see its entire body on the side of the tree. I aimed at the chest this time hoping to get either vitals or the neck/head if it shoots high. I heard a "thump" like when pellets hit fur and the squirrel got knocked off the tree and rolled down the hill a little about 4-5ft and came to a stop on its side stone dead! No death dance, no twitching, nothing!
The Supermag had hit the lungs and vitals but had not exited. I could feel the pellet on the other side just under the skin, and when I cleaned it, that's where I found it, just a millimeter under the skin before exiting. It transferred all the energy inside the large female squirrel. This nutter was fat all around and I thought she was pregnant but it didn't look like it when I cleaned it. The 9.3gr wadcutter left a nice hole at the POI. I washed the inside well because I didn't want any lead residue and it's soaking in salt water. With the one from yesterday, I now have plenty to eat
So it was this 350's first kill and on open sights! I think it has an exceptional stock with nice grain/pattern to it. Ranedouglas (Paul) took good care of it before he sold it to me and had even clear coated it! The beautiful stock on this 350 actually made me buy it
The Chrony #'s a little low so it probably needs a new spring and/or seal, so it's best I put the new Vortek kit in it since I hear good things about it. It still shoots most pellets at 17fpe so it's no "weakling"
The only pellet I get 18fpe with, is the 7.9gr CP & CPHP. I have not tried any real heavies like over 10gr though. Hopefully the Vortek kit will restore its power to 18-19fpe with medium-weight 8.x to 9.x pellets, but if it doesn't, it's ok. If I want more energy I have plenty of choices in the gun cabinet
On to the pics!

Thanks guys.
Yeah they are not too common though Manny. My other 350 (.22) is kind of plain looking. I will try and get a kill with the Lemak Condor .25, and you let me know how you like the stock on that one

Beautiful rifle Harry and good shooting on Mr. Squirrel. Those double lung/ heart shots do kill 'em quick but of course that's mainly because you can shoot.

Harry that's a good looking gun, I really like the wood grain on the butt stock. It's been alot of years since I've shot a rifle with no scope on it, not sure I could hit a thing with one. Great shooting.

Thanks Dave and Dave
Most of '07 and part of '08 I hunted exclusively with open sights, because the 350 .22 ate the RWS scope and C-mount it came with and I didn't want to try another scope until I broke it in and got it tuned. It rarely let me down. I made many 25-33yd shots on squirrels on open sights and never had 1 get away with body/vitals shots. I also took 1/2 dozen crows or more on open sights and a few Groundhogs. You missed all the great pics of my unscoped 350 and its kills next to it 3yrs ago
I actually find it easy to shoot the 350's off-hand and with open sights. The 350 has excellent iron sights and the front sight is very thin. It allows you to find your target fast and see it well. Plus I don't care what some people say, the T05 trigger is a very good trigger even at 2lbs 10oz to 3.1lbs. I miss having a scope on the 350 .177 but I would only use open sights on critters I know I can take down quickly with a vitals shot like squirrels & rabbit, crows and other birds. I would never try it on a larger night critter or G-hog that need good head shots, now that my eyes are not as good as they were 3yrs ago. I used to target shoot at 25-30yds on open sights. Now I can't see the bullseye too well at 20. So a scope will be going on it as soon as I get a Vortek kit in it, and I think I will get a low magn. scope so I can use it in the woods to acquire the target quickly.

Nice shooting! I love that rifle. How is the sling attached?
I like shooting my 350 with open sights too!

Thanks Daniel, Dave and Randy.
I have to research the new JM pro-mag spring to see how it fares against the Vortek kit. Either way, one or the other is going in this gun and most likely the 350 .22 as well. '
Randy, I bought it with the sling and swivels. I am guessing you are asking about the front.. It seems to be one of those clip-on rings around the barrel where you attach the swivel to. It seems to be strong enough. I haven't dropped the rifle yet
