Any y'all ever tried a quad ring (X-cross section) on your 880 piston?
I have some on the way. It'll be interesting to see if they make a difference.

I tested in a recently resealed old style 880.
Installation was a bit fussier with the Quad ring as opposed to the O-ring.
It tool a little fiddling to get the sea into the pump tube.
Only minimal oil was used at changeout, and I gave it several dry-firings to clear out any residual oil.
Results were interesting.
Velocities at 5 pumps were virtually identical, all around 510fps.
Things changes a bit at 7 pumps, O-ring averaging 553fps, Quad ring about 558. No big deal.
At 10 pumps, the O-ring averaged 595fps, the Quad ring 630 !
Just for grins, I did 1 at 12 pumps, 660fps, and at 15 pumps, 713....but I have not done the same with the O-ring...
It appears from this 1 test that the Quad ring comes into its own as the pressure increases.
I will test again on a new style 880, as I believe that system is a bit more efficient.

Now I am following.
I was thinking the only advantage to a double oring would be to act as an oil wiper and keep dirt away from the sealing oring. This quad ring may help do the same also.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm,
There is a fly in the ointment.
Those 880's etc. manufactured in the Orient have pistons with radiused-bottom grooves.
I believe that will prevent the use of the quad rings.
Prior to discovering this tidbit, I ran numbers on the OEM O-ring setup.
I found that at 5 pumps, velocities were about 20fps higher than the previous setup;
at 7 pumps saw an increase of 30fps
at 10 pumps about +40fps.
I think the O-ring on the bolt probe may account for some of that.
I did test in one of Daisy's crossover vintage 880-s, with the new style chamber seal, plastic pump arm and flat faced square groove pistons.
I was not able to get consistent results using either seal shape.
Dunno where the leakage is, but velocities were not consistent.
Unsure how to proceed from here.......
