I have a Daisy 880-
love it-especially the accessory fiber optic sight-really helps my crummy 70 yp eyes
I just chronographed it-about 13-15 pumps
Velocities 906 939 879 908 =average 908 FPS energy with 5.2 grain alloy pellets-I shoot light weight zinc alloy pellets-shoot indoors-so no Pb in hallway "shooting range"
Not using Pb caused a bit of a stir-heated discussion-but I don't use Pb indoors-and suburbia-can't shoot in my back yard-neighbors would freak-call cops on me
Especially with Diana rifles 460 350 which look like firearms(good wood stock firearms)
So stuck with light pellets- .177 Daisy flat nosed are 5.2 grains some older SSP pointed ones are freakishly light 4.2(claimed weight is 5.2)-
I shoot BBs too in the Daisy-hard to chronograph them
So how probably is 908 FPS with a 5.2 out of an unmodified 880? About 9.6 FPE seems a bit high-caldwell chronograph-tricky to use-but think it is working OK
Thanks
Charlie
PS for comparison
Crosman 1377 5.2 about 450 FPS
Diana 350 .177 5.2 freakish 1414 FPS- 23 FPE

what if we removed all the warning labels, and let nature take it's course?

DO NOT shoot those lightweight pellets in the 350. You'll ruin the gun.

Scott- I am getting lots of feedback telling me that
I shot my .22 Diana 460-between 2500-4500 almost exclusively with 8.6 grain light pellets-ZINC I guess-SSP CROSMAN-not made anymore
I pulled it apart-looked at seal piston compression chamber-no damage
But 5.2 is relatively MUCH LIGHTER in .177 than 8.6 ina .22
I have maybe 300 5.2 grain pellets shot so far-I might take it apart-take a look
I am actively working on "making" heavier pellets-doubling up pellets-attached pellets-shot out of a chinese B3 they hold together-shot into cardboard box stuffed with carboard sheets-
and crumpled shipping paper-but a B3 not even 1/3 the power of the 350(23 ft lbs)
Main concern is the seal/piston crashing into the end of the compression chamber at destructive speed
no sign of that in the 460-but these pellets- 5.2 lighter actually and relatively
The spring breaking early-safe bet that might happen-
the 460 still reads at 19.8 ft lbs with 9.5 grain pellets
I will check the 350 and see
I haven't seen any reports of seal damage from light pellets-but no one-other than me-admits to using them
I will pull it apart today-report what I see-you would think the end of piston would show something
Thanks for the advice-I do appreaciate it-
Sure wish some corp would make some 8 grain zinc pellets-they would need to be maybe 50% longer-not excessive-
There are some composite 8.6 crosman pellets-plastic sabot rear-pointed front-zinc I guess-called penetrators(and they do)
I don't use them much because they are a very loose fit-the little plastic "skirt" is tiny-not much resistance-pellets go in waay to easily-can easily be pushed waaay into breech
Sometimes I can tell they have slid/sic slid?? down the barrel-sound and recoil waaay to little-so I rarely use them despite being a favorable weight
Thanks
Charlie
