Rudy, I definitely would go .177 because you are interested in 50 yards or better. This gun has about 14 to 15 fpe. In 22 caliber I don’t think you will be as accurate out to 50 and beyond with 16 or so fpe. Much flatter trajectory in .177. If it were a magnum model, l might say, “take your pick.” But not with less than 20 fpe. I wish you well on your decision. I know either one will be fun though! Keep us in the loop Rudy. Mike
Thanks for taking a look guys. Yeah I do think I got an extraordinary gun because I put a Barska 3-12x40 AO on her with a dovetail to weaver mount and set her up for a 50+ yards group. This is what the rifle did scoped with the first and only group of the day. It shot a .946" 5 shot group at 52 yards. I was using the Hatsan Strike pellets. I'm very impressed thus far.
I just have ordered this version, the Gamo Black 1000 Winter Camo in .177 caliber. Exactly the same airgun as the Rocket Orange, but then with a Realtree Winter Camo stock. Now need to find a suitable scope. Is the Rocket Orange harsh on scopes (ie. do I need an etched reticle) ? Need a one piece mount or does a two piece mount works as well ?
Jumping into this thread as my Gamo Rocket Orange .22 just arrived (figured keep them all in one thread). I got around to giving the bore a pre-shoot scrub. I have to say, one of the cleanest new gun bores I have ever encountered. Actually, THE CLEANEST bore I've ever encountered. Took me longer to get supplies gathered than to swab with Ballistol and pull patches until clean. Very impressed with the lack of crud.I only got to shoot one shot so far (after cleaning), but noticed a unique report. Anybody else notice this? Not a bad sound, but that molded break (brake?) piece at the muzzle might not just be cosmetic. But did shoot a Norica wadcutter, may have affected things? (Wasn't dieseling from the Ballistol)I plan on breaking in the gun with these Norica pellets, had them a long while. As far as I can figure, they're the exact same pellet as the H&N excite wadcutters, just 're-branded:

I’m interested in the .22 version. This rifle makes right around 17ftlbs., just shot some over the chrony (12.9gr wadcutters @ 775fps average). 14.3gr pellets should be shooting right around 730-740fps (estimated). It's about 15°F here at the moment, so I didn't linger outside very long.
