Great match Jeff. When we got to ASC it was looking like it was going to be cold and a little miserable but I started shedding layers after my second lane and it turned out to be a beautiful day and perfect for shooting a match. My daughter, Caroline, and I were enjoying things and I felt we were shooting well until the stock broke on my Daystate and we had to stop with 3-4 lanes to go. I showed Caroline your write up an her responce was I could have won if your rifle hadn't broke. Looking at the scores she had a legit gripe as we were shooting pretty good. Looking forward to your next one.

Craig,
Yes she beat you and did have a chance to finish in the top 3 I think. Go get that janky Daystate fixed.

Good morning everyone,
[/font]
This is just a reminder that the next FT match at ASC will be this Saturday, November 23. This next match will be 48 shots. We’ll have 2 targets per lane, and will include the tower lane this time. As always, we will have water and a community air tank. The only reason we will cancel the match is if it rains on the day of the match; we will keep an eye on it and will send out an email to everyone if that happens. Bring some warm clothes just in case it is cold. Come out and join us for some lead slinging fun. Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up. Safety meeting at 9:45. Rifle match to start at 10:00.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.
Members $5, non-Members $10
Please let me know if you plan to attend

Thank you Jeff, we had a great time even though we didn't compete. It was 37 degrees when I woke on Saturday morning, but it was a fantastic day with almost no wind until afternoon. I really enjoyed the visit.

We had a very respectable turnout for a chilly November Field Target match at the Arlington Sportsmans Club in Mansfield Texas this past weekend. 14 shooters, including two new shooters from the Shooting Sports class at Howard Payne University (HPU) in Brownwood, showed up to take on 12 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course. The match this time was a shorter 48 shots due to colder temps, but the average Troyer of 31.0, SD 5.28, Avg Dist 26.8 yds, and Avg KZ .97” was a little tougher than last month’s course.
Overall, matches continue to run very well with no cold lines or malfunctioning targets. Thanks to Terry Vanpool for setup help on Friday, and also to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores. Terry Vanpool with his Air Arms HFT500 bested Don Carmack by 1 point for 1
st
place in Hunter PCP with 40/48 vs. 39/48, while Faisal Khan finished 3
rd
again with 32/48. Jeff Cloud finished 1
st
in Hunter Piston again this month with 35/48, and Eric Pianori finished 2
nd
again with 32/48, with Jim Clarke’s 29/48 qualifying him for 3
rd
. New shooter Katie Saenz bested new shooter Kendall Moore with 54/96 vs. 52/96 in the fun rifle class. Read more about the Shooting Sports class offered at HPU

For all of you that couldn’t make it out, you missed another great match with a bunch of great guys and gals. I’d like to invite any of you out to shoot and tryout field target even if you don’t own an air rifle, because we have some to loan you to shoot with. I’d also like to make an invitation to anyone who would like to design a course for an upcoming match. I can provide a list of targets and pictures of the lanes along with other info that would enable you to layout a match for the rest of us to shoot. Designing a challenging course that others shoot is rewarding and gives back to the sport we all enjoy. We will have our next match the 3
rd
Saturday in
December (21
st
) unless the response is low and then we’ll cancel until January.

Good evening everyone,
The match is on for this Saturday, even if it rains on Friday. The shooting lanes won’t be muddy because we’ve put down gravel in the shooting areas this fall. I’ve made the course much easier this time, so I expect high scores and possibly even for someone to clean the course. I’ve also got a few surprises in store for you. Wear a Christmas hat or sweater and you can shoot for FREE.
See you on Saturday morning,

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsmans Club 12/20/2019
What a great event for our last match 2019 at the Arlington Sportsmans Club in Mansfield Texas yesterday. 13 shooters showed up on a rather chilly day for Texas in December to take on 10 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course. It was foggy and chilly but with no wind when we started and that weather lasted for the entire match. The match this time was 60 shots with 3 targets per lane, and I turned down the Troyer rating to make it a bit more fun and even provide an “ego boost” for some shooters. The average Troyer was 25.9, SD 5.62, Avg Dist 25.8 yds, and Avg KZ 1.08”, but I had a couple of surprises for the Christmas holidays this match.
First, as has become a tradition at ASC, anyone wearing Holiday attire (hat, sweater, elf shoes, etc.) will be allowed to shoot the match for free (a $10 value)! Second, I placed 2 targets into a lovely wrapped Christmas package setting to enhance the holiday mood. I must admit that my intent was to put the targets into a dark setting making them hard to see, but that didn’t work out as I had hoped as one target wasn’t really dark, and the second one wouldn’t fit into the package I procured for it. Oh well, maybe something to try for a subsequent match.
Overall, matches continue to run very well with no cold lines or malfunctioning targets. Thanks to Terry Vanpool for painting and organizing the targets, and to my youngest daughter, Lilly, who helped measure all of the target distances and setup the match on Friday, and finally to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores. Kevin Enzian with his Air Arms S500 bested everyone for match high score, was first in Hunter PCP, and almost cleaned the course with a score of 59/60! Congratulations Kevin!! Paul Walker with his Thomas finished 2nd in Hunter PCP with 53/60, and Paul Kocurek with his RAW TM1000 was 3rd with 51/50. Eric Pianori with his Walther LGU in .22(!) finished 1st in Hunter Piston with 52/60, besting Terry Vanpool and his Walther LGU with 51/60, and I followed with 50/60 for 3rd. We had 2 open class shooters Craig Martin (Open Piston) with 45/60 and Cliff Montgomery (Open PCP) with 41/60. It’s nice to see some Open Class shooters!

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 01/25/2020
Well, if you weren’t present then you missed an awesome Field Target match at the Arlington Sportsman’s Club (ASC) in Mansfield Texas yesterday.
20
(!!) shooters showed up for the first match of 2020 to take on 10 lanes in our wooded 3D archery course. Of those 20 shooters, we had 2 new shooters, Patrick Hunter and Willie Sims, both in Hunter PCP. We paired them up with experienced shooters and hopefully they have the bug and will come back to shoot with us. It was a little chilly and windy when we started, but thankfully the sun came out and unfortunately the wind picked up even more about halfway through the match. I don’t remember the last time we had this much wind at ASC, nor do I remember having to hold off 3 mil-dots for the wind when shooting @ 12 ft-lbs! The match was 60 shots with 3 targets per lane once again with 6(!) total offhand targets, and I increased the Troyer difficulty rating resulting in an average Troyer was 29.2, SD 4.92, Avg Dist 27.9 yds, and Avg KZ 1.08”. I had another surprise on Lane 3 this match; I placed a target inside of a large rain barrel laid on its side with the intent that the target would be in the dark. I’ll try to make this work a little better next match.
Overall, matches continue to run very well with no cold lines or malfunctioning targets. Thanks to Terry Vanpool who helped measure all the target distances and setup the match on Friday, and finally to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards. Your help is really appreciated since it usually takes about 4 hours to get the match all setup for Saturday.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores. Mike Vredenburg in Open PCP with his Daystate Grand Prix bested everyone for match high score 54/60, while Terry Vanpool was first in Hunter PCP with a score of 51/60. Paul Kocurek finished 2
nd
in Hunter PCP with 50/60, and Faisal Khan was 3
rd
with 45/50, besting Kevin Enzian based on offhand lane performance. Jentry Powell finished 1
st
in Hunter Piston 40/60, besting Jim Clarke with 38/60 for 2
nd
and Eric Pianori with 35/60 for 3
rd
. We had 3 Open PCP class shooters; Mike Vredenburg was 1
st
with 54/60, Chris Simmons was 2
nd
with 38/60 and Cliff Montgomery (Open PCP) with 28/60. It’s nice to see some Open Class shooters! Finally, we had 3 WFTF Piston shooters with Jeff Cloud with his Whiscombe topping the list at 41/60, followed by Bob Pacatte at 29/60. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
For all of you that couldn’t make it out this time, you really missed a well-attended and competitive match with a bunch of great folks. I’d like to invite any of you out to shoot and tryout field target even if you don’t own an air rifle, because we have some to loan you to shoot with. FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 02/22/2020
The Field Target match at the Arlington Sportsman’s Club (ASC) in Mansfield Texas was quite a bit smaller than usual, probably based on weather forecast. Well, the 9 shooters who showed up for this match were blessed with decent weather with some sun and also some wind to challenge their shooting skills on 10 lanes in our wooded course. Once again, the match was 60 shots with 3 targets per lane with 6(!) total offhand targets again this month. Using 3 targets per lane just makes the match run more quickly and gets everyone home to their families sooner. The average Troyer was 30.4, SD 5.59, Avg Dist 30.3 yds, and Avg KZ 1.13”. I had a surprise on Lane 5 this match, when I once again placed a target inside of a large rain barrel laid on its side but then covered the back end of the open barrel with a cloth, so that the target was very dark. It was much darker than last month and difficult to see the killzone, but most shooters were able to find the KZ and knock it down. Great job everyone!
Thanks once again to Terry Vanpool who painted all the target distances and helped setup the match on Friday, and finally to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards. Your help is really appreciated since it usually takes about 4 hours to get the match all setup for Saturday.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards and tallied the scores. I was blessed to achieve the match high score 53/60, while Bob Dye was first in Hunter PCP with a score of 50/60. Terry Vanpool finished 2
nd
in Hunter PCP with 46/60, and Faisal Khan was 3
rd
again with 42/60. Eric Pianori was first in Hunter Piston with 36/60 and club member Tommy Taylor was 2
nd
with a respectable 20/60. Tommy has been shooting with us for about 6 months and is making steady progress on his FT and ranging skills. We had 3 WFTF class shooters where I ended up 1
st
using my Whiscombe to achieve 53/60 in WFTF Piston and Cliff Montgomery was 2
nd
with 24/60. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
For all of you that couldn’t make it out this time, you continue to miss competitive matches with a bunch of great folks. If there is anything missing or something that could be improved for an upcoming match, please let me know. I’d like to invite any of you reading this out to shoot and try field target even if you don’t own an air rifle, because we have some to loan you to shoot with. Just let me know ahead of time and we can plan for you to shoot with someone experienced. We’d love to have you join us. We will have our next match next year the 4th Saturday in March (28

Good morning everyone,
After a long break, ASC is going to restart our FT matches on Saturday June 27, 2020 (the 4th Saturday of the month as usual). This match will be between 50-60 shots using 2 targets per lane. The start time will be 9:00am to get us out of there before it gets too hot. The only reason I will cancel the match is if it is raining (drizzle doesn’t count). Look for an email one day before with final notification.
We will have some different procedures to follow for this match, so please adhere to these if you wish to participate:
Follow social distancing guidelines from Tarrant County and the State of Texas before, during and after shooting.
We prefer that you wear a mask while at the range, if not for your protection then to protect others.
I will have a box of rubber gloves for you to wear if you choose for handling the reset strings. I will try to come up with a bottle of hand sanitizer.
We will have one shooter per lane unless more than 15 show up, and then we will have 2 shooters per lane.
You will be on your honor to record your scores appropriately if shooting solo. Maintain distance while shooting and scoring.
No water will be provided, bring your own.
Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 8:45.
Rifle match to start at 9:00.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.
The chiggers are out, so bring bug spray or you may be sorry
.

For all FT shooters that would like to attend the next FT match at Arlington Sportsman's Club on Saturday June 27, please drop me an email or text or phone call to let me know you are coming so that I have a count for the match. The number of shooters will determine how many lanes I set out to assist social distancing, but no matter what, this will be a 56 shot match.
See you on the 27th!

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 06/27/2020
We held our first Field Target match at the Arlington Sportsman’s Club (ASC) in Mansfield Texas in 4 months, and it was well attended but HOT. 13 shooters showed up for this match and followed COVID-19 guidelines and social distanced over our spread out 14 lanes in our wooded course. As is typical in Texas in June, were blessed with hot weather that was mostly sunny and also some wind to challenge our shooting skills. The match this month was 56 shots with 2 targets per lane including an offhand and kneeling lane. The average Troyer was 29.2, SD 6.61, Avg Dist 31.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.15”. I once again placed a target inside of a large rain barrel laid on its side and covered the back end of the open barrel with a cloth, so that the target was very dark. Most shooters were able to find the KZ and knock it down twice, so I guess I’m going to have to find a more devious setup for this target. Great job everyone![
Thanks once again to Terry Vanpool who painted all the targets, and to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards. Your help is really appreciated since it usually takes about 4 hours to get the match all setup for Saturday.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards, and social distanced around the picnic tables in the shade while I tallied the scores. My good friend David Alsup, whom we haven’t seen in quite a while scored the match high score 50/56. Ron Robinson, whom we haven’t seen since last June came out strong and was first in Hunter PCP with a score of 49/56. Faisal Khan finished 2
nd
in Hunter PCP with 47/56, and Jim Leggett was 3
rd
with 37/56. Jim Clarke bested Eric Pianori for first in Hunter Piston with identical 40/56 scores based on Jim’s better performance on the offhand and kneeling lanes, and club member Chris Simmons was 3
rd
shooting his Whiscombe JW60 with a respectable 27/56. We had 2 WFTF Piston class shooters where I ended up 1
st
with 38/56 and Jentry Powell finished 2
nd
with 37/56 in his first ever WFTF Piston match. Jentry has been shooting a HW97K .22 very well in Hunter Piston for a while, and decided to make the jump to WFTF recently. David Alsup was 1
st
in Open PCP with 50/56 and Cliff Montgomery was 2
nd
with 36/56. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
One last bit of news. Jim Leggett dropped a few of his Marauder magazines on the course somewhere, so if anyone found them, please let me know and I’ll get them back to Jim.
For all of you that couldn’t make it out this time, I want you to know that we maintain social distancing while shooting and take other precautions to keep everyone safe. We will have our next match the 4th Saturday in July (24
th
).
See you at the next match,

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 08/22/2020
We seem to be getting back on track with matches at the Arlington Sportsman’s Club (ASC) in Mansfield Texas and as is usual for Texas in August, today it was very hot. We started out at 78F when the match started and ended up at 98F when it finished with little to no wind today. We were really sweating out on the archery course today. Only 11 hearty shooters showed up for this match spread out on 10 lanes in our wooded course. The match this month was 56 shots with 3 targets per lane including an offhand and kneeling lane. The average Troyer was 29.9, SD 6.89, Avg Dist 28.8 yds, and Avg KZ 1.04”. The course was a little shorter this time, but I compensated for that by using smaller KZ’s. Heehee. I heard some great discussions about the dark targets sitting in the deep shadows on lanes 2-4, and then also heard about the raccoon target with illegal size KZ on lane 6. That target was just barely legal at ¾” dia KZ placed at 35 yards, and it was definitely the hardest target on the course today. More than half of the shooters got that target at least once. Great shooting everyone!
Thanks once again to my co-director Terry Vanpool who painted all the targets, and to everyone who joined us at the match, helped run the strings in the morning, and finally helped take down the course afterwards. Your help is really appreciated since it usually takes about 3 hours on Friday to get the match all setup for Saturday.
At the end of the match, we turned in our score cards, and social distanced around the picnic tables in the shade while I tallied the scores. Dave Cole from Tulsa OK was first in Hunter PCP with a score of 51/56 beating out Terry Vanpool also with a 51/56 based on their performance on the offhand lane. Faisal Khan finished 3
rd
in Hunter PCP with 45/56. In Hunter Piston Mark Welker from Tulsa OK (actually Talala OK but who knows where that is!) finished 1
st
with 45/56 and Eric Pianori finished 2
nd
with a respectable 32/56. I was the only WFTF Piston class shooter finishing with 49/56 and Cliff Montgomery finished with 41/56 in Open PCP. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
We never did find Jim Leggett’s Marauder magazines from the last match. Sorry Jim!

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 10/24/2020
I was back from my hiatus and full of energy this month, so much so that I convinced Terry to have a 90-
shot “Monster” match with 2 lanes of Zombie targets in honor of Halloween that is fast approaching and
also 2 lanes of charging German WWII tanks. Terry painted and organized the targets and then we spent
part of Friday setting all of them out and arranging them in challenging positions for the shooters the
next day.
There were 13 shooters at the match on Saturday morning, who were greeted with temps in the high
40’s at the start but rose to high 50’s by the end of our time slinging lead at 90 targets. It was I must say
a perfect fall day in Texas. The match used all 15 of the lanes in our wooded 3D archery course with 3
targets per lane including the offhand and kneeling lanes. The average Troyer was 30.2, SD 6.00, Avg
Dist 30.0 yds, and Avg KZ 1.07”.
At the end of the match, Paul Kocurek in Hunter PCP had the match high score of 83/90. I recall hearing
Paul complaining loudly about how badly he was shooting on some of the lanes, but I believe it was all
just a ruse. Good shooting Paul. Rick Cuccio from Oklahoma finished 2nd in Hunter PCP with a close
81/90, besting Terry Vanpool with a 79/90. Very tight scores in this class again this match. Mark Welker
from Oklahoma finished 1st in Hunter Piston with a 65/90 and Eric Pianori finished 2nd with a 55/90 and
Scott Cotton finished 3rd with 50/90 after a loonnggg hiatus from shooting. Cliff Montgomery finished
1st and last in Open PCP with 60/90. Finally, David Alsup bested me in WFTF PCP with 78/90 to my
72/90. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
Once again, for all of you that couldn’t make it out this time, I want you to know that we maintain social
distancing while shooting and take other precautions to keep everyone safe. If there is anything missing
or something that could be improved for an upcoming match, please let me know. I’d like to invite any

some to loan you to shoot with. Just let me know ahead of time and we can plan for you to shoot with
someone experienced. We’d love to have you join us. We will have our next match the 3rd Saturday in
November (21st) instead of the normal 4th Saturday due to Thanksgiving.

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 09/26/2020
I am ghost writing the report this month, because I was out of town at my daughter’s ring ceremony at Texas A&M Galveston. My cohort, Terry Vanpool, was kind enough to run the match for September at ASC, and he reports that it went off without a hitch. There were 11 shooters at this match, which is not bad considering the COVID spike in Texas. The match was spread out on 10 lanes in our wooded course. The match this month was 56 shots with 3 targets per lane including an offhand and kneeling lane. The average Troyer was 28.6, SD 5.31, Avg Dist 30.0 yds, and Avg KZ 1.10”. Terry reports that it was a great match with excellent weather, and he gave me Kudos for a good course design.
At the end of the match, David Alsup in WFTF PCP had the match high score of 55/56. Nice shooting David. BTW you only missed one! Just thought you’d like to know. Terry Vanpool finished 1
st
in Hunter PCP with a terrific 52/56, besting Faisal Khan with a 51/56 and Paul Kocurek with a 48/56. Very tight scores in this class today. Jim Clark finished 1
st
in Hunter Piston with a 38/56 and Eric Pianori was only 3 shots back with a 35/56. Finally, Craig Martin finished 1
st
, last or middle of the pack (depending on your view) in Open PCP with a 44/56. View the full list of all competitors’ scores and equipment below.
Remember that I reported that Jim Leggett lost his Marauder magazines on the course a couple of matches back? Well he informed us that he found them…in his rifle bag!!!! Now you have lots of extras Jim!
Once again, for all of you that couldn’t make it out this time, I want you to know that we maintain social distancing while shooting and take other precautions to keep everyone safe.
