We have a dairy as many know. We live in eastern WA and get all 4 seasons and have a full 100* swing usually from winter's lows to summer highs. Saturday Feb 9 was my 26th birthday and ended up being the worst day of my life this far. We had an unheard of blizzard for our area 20* with 30mph sustained winds and gusts to 50mph and tons of snow. It started at 7am and lasted until 11pm. We were working from 6am-8pm waited for the wind to die down and started back up at 12am-6pm with no sleep. Many dairyman worked the same as us and were just working our hardest to keep cows alive. Sadly many have been lost in our valley. Not many of ours thank the Lord but none the less very sad. It was as close to *(&^ on Earth as I have ever been. Thankful to be alive though. I don't know how you people who live where you get blizzards do it but dairies in those areas must have cross vent barns or something but wow. I hope we never go through that again. Lol my 26th birthday was horrible. I thought it was alot later when birthdays weren't fun. Anyways stay safe out there all going through the winter storms!

Man that has got to be tough on you folks out there when the weather gets like that. Some of my birthdays have had hurricanes for them. Even got married in a hurricane. The weather lately has had no mercy on anybody in the lower 48. Weather events that are epic can be very traumatic at times and it takes time to heal from it. You have to keep your wits about you to get through it. Just look at this way it will be a birthday that you spent time with your family for a common cause, you all came together to help each other in a time of crisis. Birthdays are a gathering of family and friends to celebrate a special day, you just happen to have a blizzard for the icing on the cake. Take care, be safe, and stay warm. ;)

Glad you have made it through the blizzard. It has been a cold winter.
I have had not had much time to shoot the R9 because of the weather.
I did get the WGRS-54 peep sight mounted.

Dillion, I can sympathize with you. I was born and raised on a dairy in NJ(back when there still were numerous in the state) and have been through some major storms. Definitely not fun. Hang in there hopefully things get better for you.
On a side note... I help out a local 3rd generation farmer occasionally. Talking with him a few days ago he told me last year was the worst year that he has ever had weather and money wise.

Grand-ma's brother (my Great uncle?) had a Dairy farm here, I remember working there in my youth... THAT is real work!

Glad to hear you are OK. I know a lot about blizzards as I have to deal with Noreasters here in South Central Pa. About 50 years ago I would work a dairy farm during the summer. When school left out I left home and stayed on the farm until school started in the fall. Back when you poured the milk from the milker to the stainless steel bucket and carried it to the milkhouse where it was poured through a filter into the milk tank. It didn't take too long to realize there are NO days of on a dairy farm. By the way, my thanks for the service you provide to my family.

Dillon.....I am glad that you were able to minimize the losses of cows during that Blizzard. Blizzards can be tough to deal with, especially for Livestock owners. I grew up on a farm and I know what it is like to take care or animals in bad weather. A good heated and insulated barn is a real plus here in Minnesota.
Blizzards are fairly common here in Minnesota, especially for the folks that live in the western part of the state, along the North & South Dakota border. This year, since the 1st of February, we have had 2 Blizzards and 4 big snow storms. I have now got about 20 to 30 inches of snow around my place and... there is still a lot of winter left to deal with. Tomorrow I will be going up on the roof of my house to shovel the snow off of it and reduce the snow load.
Last year (2018) we had 4 regular Blizzards and a Doozy of a Blizzard that hit April 15 thru April 20th. Winter lasted right up to May in 2018.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to post on this thread. I appreciate the comments of you all. This past week has been extremely hard and busy even more so than normal. We've gotten a good 8" plus of snow after the blizzard and look to get another 2-4" this Tuesday/Wednesday. For a dry place like ours that gets 6-8" precipitation annually with about 6" of snow on average included for winter were struggling to keep up with it.

Keep on chugging, there are plenty more (challenges) ahead of you. We have it pretty easy up here in the Northwest compared to others.
