Pellet cleaning and lubes
«

I've recently returned to air guns and have been lurking/reading all the great posts here for awhile.
I've seen pellet cleaning and lubing referred to a couple times and am wondering if this is common.
I've got a tin of old pellets that have a white buildup on them, I'm assuming this is oxidation.
Should I clean these and try to use 'em or just recycle..
I've used the search tool for "pellet cleaning" and "pellet washing" , "lubed" and gotten no results.
What's everyones opinion and process if you do this.
Thanks

You could clean an use those pellet's I'd say. Several way's of cleaning an lubing Sno the one I use most often "when I do Clean an lube"(for CP's mainly) is take a half tin of pellet's rinse with hot water put a couple of drop's of dawn dish soap an fill with hot water again close lid an do a easy minute or so of shaking, flipping, rinse well place on a towel pat dry(let finish drying in sun or on register) then I place in a baggie spray with pledge polish(lightly) an roll shake the bag(even's out coating) dump out an let dry. Now I have learned from Mr.Gary on here to use an "OLD" small oven to heat them to around 200/300(faster drying for one) then to use the pledge, seem's to dry more even on them this way. I'm also checking out using Ballistol,White Lightning chain lube(without heating) an a few other's for lube on pellet's an know that there "is" lube made for them too. Hope this help's you some an really you should be able to find at least some more on here about other method's used?
P.S. I only use the Ballistol an White lightning in my PCP's as I don't want to chance a detonation in my springer's/NP's, don't know if it would but why risk it.

Just to let you know Sno, I have since shot pellet's treated with Ballistol an White Lightning in my springer's an NP without any sign of dieseling/detonation, so give it a shot if you would like, both seem's to be a good lube so far for pellet's.

Personally I would throw them out. Lead oxide is more readily absorbed into the body. DO NOT clean them with vinegar. That will form lead acetate. Very bad stuff. I would not take the risk for the few dollars in savings. But that's just me.
Yours and others opinions may vary.

I have washed pellets with warm water several times and after drying, I applied FP-10 lubricant/oil. I read about FP-10 2-3yrs ago on the TAG (Talon/Condor forum) where a lot of people use it. I tried it but didn't really notice a difference in accuracy. It's more for keeping the bore clean, protected and lubricated at the same time I guess, but others swear it makes the shots more accurate. I never had accuracy issues with my PCP's, so I guess I never saw the accuracy advantage, except that my bore was definitely cleaner than before and does not require cleaning as often. I have not tried it with my Springers, but I understand that Pledge is safer for Springers and their breach seals, so I may try that next when I shoot my Springers. The trick is not too use too much (of anything), so it does not leak back into the compression chamber when you store your Springer vertically.
