Airgun Expo 2025 is all set and ready to go! [2025-05-09]

Good Morning Airgunners, and thank you for being part of the GTA.

It's always a last-minute push to get things ready for Airgun Expo, and this year was no exception.  We have a great host of sponsors for the event, and we should have a great time.  We are posting notices on El Paso social media and hopefully, we'll be able to get some folks out to shoot some airguns.

While I'm very excited to shoot some new airguns, I'm mostly excited to get IAATS off the ground.  I spoke with Nate from Nate Chrony the other day, and it looks like we'll have at least a solid working prototype for our electronic scoring system. If all goes well, it will also run matches, keeping a running total of shooters and their scores.  Anything that can remove admin overhead and make things more full with less stress is a win for me.

This was just the early initial look.  We will be able to tune the system to match the target's deflection.  There will certainly be some trial and error, and we are working on how to adjust for the margin of error, but it's looking very promising!

On another topic, Nate was telling me about his new Chrony that incorporates an accelerometer to measure movement at the muzzle.  I got to thinking that this could be a really good tool for folks looking to tune and dial in their benchrest rig.  Any movement from the internals can cause a shift in your POI.  What do you all think about having something that could tell you exactly what your gun is doing after you pull the trigger?  We are going to have some of these units, along with extra target sensors and chronographs, at the event.  If you'd like to see this all working firsthand, then we'd love to have you come out and visit.

As for getting out to the range, I expect to be out there Sunday afternoon to shoot a new FX rifle and help a local get their scope mounted and set up on it. I'm excited to see how that goes. Lastly, we are starting an airgun club in El Paso. I used to run Havasu Airgunners back when I lived in Lake Havasu, and that was always a lot of fun. I'm hoping to recreate that here in El Paso, all under the GTA banner. I can't wait!
