 I have a Gamo Varmint that I've had a couple years now. The first hundred or so shots had a lot of recoil. But several hundred shots late it is very smooth shot cycle and does very good to 40+ yards using HN FTT 8.7gr, 4.52mm pellets. Not the best trigger but not bad either. I trust my Gamo Varmint to hit what I'm aiming at within 30 yards. When I checked last year on the chrono the Varmint put out 840 FPS with the HNFTT with around 10 FPS spread. I have a Hammers 3-9x32mm AOMD mounted.
  Fun budget friendly airgun, accurate with the right pellets.

Kia Ora Nukall856.  Looks like we are having the same kind of experience. My Varmint is .22 and puts out 16.94 ft/lbs. A respectable power. Recoil is not objectionable and although there is some spring noise or buzz. It is minor and I do not anticipate going into the gun for that.

The barrel is plastic coated with a plastic breach block. No funny bits on the end that need cutting off. The breach holds any pellet I insert without it falling out. Cocking force is quite mild.
The plastic breach end sits up a bit proud from the compression tube . That is a bit budget but not too unsightly. The steel insert in the plastic barrel has the Gamo characteristic of the last 10mms or so being un rifled. I can't see the rifling crown but it must be OK because the gun out of the box shoots very accurately at 26 metres. The trigger is advertised as Standard Gamo but the addition of a longer adjustment screw makes it everything that a hunting plinking trigger should be. Well what I want it to be.
The stock is standard black plastic and is light, serviceable and handy. Ambidextrous cheek pieces which are as useless as any but no more so  than any other more expensive rifle. The crown of the stock is high enough for the package scope. No recoil reducing rail; just two piece budget rings holding the dovetail  grooves. That part works out just right for me.
The scope is definitely a budget to throw away Item. Plastic tube and I think acrylic glass on a 4 x 32 bug buster sized scope.. Good positive clicks on the adjustment turrets. The sight picture is not very clear and it took a bit of shimming to get the scope centred. Budget indeed but it works and holds zero so far. No plan to upgrade until the scope fails.
If Gamo produced a plastic scope of better quality I would go for that.
Longevity -- Time will tell . In the mean time I have a cheap, simple good spring gun. Just load and shoot and have a handy nice shooting rabbiting gun.

We had a wet day and out came the Varmint. Pulled it apart and sure enough it is a budget gun. The top hat was shoddy and the rear spring guide as part of the SAT trigger was far too sloppy. So i turned up a new top hat and guide to a proper fit. The spring buzz has gone. I also swopped the plastic scope for a Hawke and the sight picture is much clearer. Testing shows an increase of 35 fps. That might be a little bit of dieseling because there is a trace of smoke. I am not sure how that came about as i did not remove the piston and removed rather than added grease.
My budget gun just got better.

A good barrel cleaning might get rid of some of that. They are shipped with gunk to protect them from moisture.

I am enjoying my Gamo Varmint. Ding proof plastic stock: rust proof plastic coated barrel. Light to carry, easy to cock, good power. Cheap price. Easy to work on. Accurate .
