Title: Gamo Hunter 890 question: coil or gas spring?
Post by: ArtieD2 on November 28, 2018, 08:57:10 AM
Hi all. I'm having trouble finding clear info on whether or not my older Hunter 890 uses a gas spring or not. I have an order for the ARH Gamo tune kit pending and need to know if I ordered the right kit. I was hoping not to open this thing up until I had the new parts in hand. I'm talking about the kit that includes the E3650 spring.

Thanks all.
Artie

It takes an E3650, Tarantula or Merlin Spring from Air-rifle Headquarters.

Thanks OleTomCat. I just reaffirmed my order with them. Can't wait for these new parts to come in. This should be fun.

Artie,

Which sprig did you choose, the Merlin gives the smoothest shot cycle in my opinion, the E3650 is closest to OEM just better quality and the Tarantula is a bit more powerful than the OEM.

I chose the "pre-assembled" kit. It's basically the one that they put together so that newbies, (like me), wouldn't have to research all the individual elements. Spring, seals, and lubes. It includes the E3650 spring. That's fine for my first "tune". But as I get into this, I'm sure I'm going to want to play with some other options. Until you mentioned it, I was only aware of the E3650 and Tarantula. I'm not so much into power, as I am smoothness and accuracy, so the Merlin sounds intriguing. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't forget to order one of Charlie's golden triggers to top off your kit if your gun doesn't wear one now. Big improvement. The 890 was a nice gun

Yup. I actually had the Charlie's trigger, (now Cathy Curtis), before I had the kit. I've got both sitting here, but I don't want to install either until I can go do some shooting with my new chrono. That way, I can do some "before-'n-after" measurements. Now that we've got Christmas behind us, I should be able to get out to the range, where I just joined.

I've seen on another forum that some people use a vt-1 ar trigger block $150 in the hunter ,i was wondering if anyone else had heard or actually done this modification as I'm interested in doing it myself
