Been working on switching to bulk fill for my XS-60C. Tethered a 24 oz paintball tank the other day. Worked fine but did not bleed the line fully and blew the o-ring out of the quick disconnect. I have spares.
Finally got everything I need to fill the small bottle from my CO2 welding tank so tried that yesterday. took 3.5 ozs and I did not go through cooling or warming tanks as I figured I would be fine to go shoot some more.
Well my POI had been really low which was why I was refilling after the partial fill Dicks gave me. Now my POI is much higher hitting hard and louder than before.
I had checked two of my welding tanks and they were straight Argon. I "knew" this one was straight CO2 when I was ordering parts. So I double checked and it is Argon CO2 mix which I guess means I was shooting my CO2 rifle at PCP pressure. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. I do not know what the pressure actually was with Argon CO2 mix but it was obviously higher that CO2.
Pretty sure I got real lucky. Check your gases.

PCP, HPA and Co2 guns are not to be taken lightly I was working on one of my PCP rifles last night 6/13 and removed the bolt assembly from my EdGun R3.5M . I accidentally pulled the trigger while moving the rifle out of the way on the work bench. With no bolt assembly to direct the air down the barrel a blast of 3000 psi air was directed towards the rear :-[ Yes it left a mark on my right bicep the HP air had enough directed force to actually break the skin. Not a deep cut but deep enough to bleed and it was necessary to stop what I was doing to clean the cut and bandage it . ::) ::)
It is easy to do dumb stuff ask Jeff or any of us inveterate tinkerers. Just a small distraction and another story about what not to do comes to light :o :-[
PS; with the bolt assembly removed there is no trigger safety so I should have bled down the air tank or put a block behind the trigger to prevent what happened. :-[ :-[ :-[

Very easy to do with the R3M.... I "try" to remember to decock the hammer immediately after removing the breech. I place a rag over the hammer, press down with my thumb, pull the trigger and slowly decock the hammer. There have been several times when I lost focus resulting in a loud blast and almost a change of shorts...

Exactly I made sure to wear a tee with short sleeves this morning so that SWMBO (RN) did not see the mark when she got home from work. ;D ;D

I’m glad you didn’t get hurt. But to take away something useful from this (besides the safety aspect), the fact your POI went up and it’s hitting harder says it’s wasting CO2 normally. Might want to reduce the hammer strike if you’re wanting to increase your shot count. It also has the benefit of a lessened cooling effect that can cause your POI to fall as the CO2 temperature falls while shooting without much time between each shot.

Not sure I follow this, The only change I mage was to the contents of the paintball bottle I am tethering to. First was shooting from a partial CO2 fill of unknown quantity, thought to be about 6 ounces and there was no way I shot all of that down. added what seemed to be about 3.5 ounces argon CO2 mix, reconnected and POI jumped by several inches at 30 yds. so I would have thought it was increased pressure. I had also assumed the low POI was the tank running out and that the 6 ozs the guy at Dicks put in was much less.

Jason will explain better. But you being able to wack the valve open with higher pressure against, and getting a velocity jump would point to too much hammer spring for your setup.

If you have enough hammer spring to open the valve at the increased pressure that was in the tank,
And saw your poi move up you likely have too much hammer spring for Co2 at regular pressure and are wasting gas. At least I think that is what be said!

Rod and Brian are steering you in the right direction.
To make better use of CO2, simply back off the hammer spring adjuster until you just begin to see the velocity taper off. That's the beauty of tuning a regulated rifle (CO2 is essentially like having a regulator...just one that varies with temperature). When you're tuned this way, the velocity will also be a bit less sensitive to temperature swings.
