Good morning. I think I have decided on a 95. Now to decide between the springer and Vortex. Looks like the price difference is about $30. I am hoping to catch an after Christmas sale if anybody runs one.
Of the two which is a better decision long term. At the moment I am leaning towards the Vortex in a .22 in the event I want to take it squirrel hunting although I haven’t hunted in the last 9 years. Thanks.

I had the non-vortex gas spring 95 in .22, but it wasn't accurate so I sent it into Hatsan under warranty. They said they couldn't fix the accuracy issue and sent me the Vortex version as a replacement. I like the Vortex version better. I think it looks better without that big plastic hand break on the end of the barrel and I understand the barrel is shorter, too. 11 or 12". You wouldn't know it because the shroud hides it. My gun isn't hold sensitive and I suspect the shorter barrel might have something to do with it (pellet is out faster so less effect from the gun moving). I could be wrong about that, though.
Mine is very accurate.

Very happy with the vortex .22 qe for rats. It is quiet and not terribly hold sensitive. Have not fired/owned the spring version so can't compare.
95 is a bit heavy for carrying through the woods, regardless of powerplant, so get a good sling.

I have the 95 vortex qe and the Webley tomahawk (springer) both in .22. I think the tomahawk is the same action as the 95 springer. I much prefer the 95 vortex, so much quieter and smoother and much more accurate. The qe lacks the nasty plastic bit so is a much better-looking rifle, I would say.

A spring will be easier to cock, but I would never steer anyone away from a gas ram. They are better in many ways if not all.

I don't have any experience with anything other than my .22 Vortex QE which is my first (gas ram) springer. I'm really impressed with the smoothness and accuracy of this gun. At this price point I can't imagine a mechanical spring gun that could compete out of the box.

Thanks everyone for your input. I placed an order for the Vortex QE. I hope to have it in about a week. I also ordered a tin of pellets just to get shooting. I understand from reading that certain guns favor certain pellets so if you found the magic one let me know. Might save me some time and money going through a bunch of different ones.

Best of luck. I think you'll like the gun. JSB Jumbo Heavy Diablos (18.3 gns) do well. For me and my gun, they shoot great..... Maybe a tad slower because of the weight, but the accuracy is good and so is torque.

18.13's shoot well in mine as well, RWS Superdomes almost as well.
Premiers have decent accuracy and are cheap, so maybe best for break-in

I noticed I screwed up my reply above. Both of the 95's I've had are/were Vortex guns, but the first one was the non- "QE" and the second was a QE.
In addition to the JSB's mentioned by others, the gun loves the Hatsan 14.66's and the 5.53 mm H&N FTE's, which are apparently the same pellet as the Hatsan's.
