I was goofing around and thought about A mount issues here ,and something I noticed way back is the clamp claw is reversible.Or it think it is cause I never seen this in a manual that comes with a mount or at least the ones I got so far.So most claim fits 9-11 or 3/8 dovetail slotThen notice the claw part that fits in the dovetail is 2 sizes or one a bit longer like one side for 11mm and one side for 3/8 ( pic 1)But once I mounted one and the clamp was slanted and would put crooked stress on the screws.( Pic2). Flip it and you get a square straight flush fit (pic 3)Anyway I check this now and if needed flip it over to the correct fit on the Rail, and I don't guess I ever seen one marked for orientation or in a mounting instructions of the part .So for fun just looking for opinions on that or what f thereount points any of that out.
Ya, Ed I was looking at that way but I shoot a lot of open sight and I guess that mounting may be impractical for me Matter of fact someone here in another thread pointed that out to me and dashed that deal...But ya, that looks more solid/ secure if I shot scope full time. After posting with the guy on the scope coming loose I was in the shop pulling a scope to shoot open and that popped in to mind .Some time back I got a mount same as the rest I use but when I put it on and went to tighten it I noticed this and sure enough it from as flipped vs the other 2 like it.. Anyway I assumed that was the case one side 11mm one side 3/8.And maybe it's not a factory standard on what way it's installed on the mount ?One more on that with a 2 ring mount. If you don't catch this and one ring is correct on the 11mm claw but the 2ed ring is on the 3/8 claw if it would pull the scope from true straight or have it cockeyed? You'd think it have to Thing is I never seen info on any of that and how many guys don't know and have scope issues cause nothing on or in the box tells . Lol..
Since the original question was "Have I ever seen anything on packaging or included instructions that mentions those reversible plates".....Picture of the insert that comes in the packaging of the Hawke scope rings I use on the bulk of my rifles and it does mention that plate and even has their recommended screw torque recommendations at the bottom. Your mileage may vary and greatly with other brands/makers, although I have a Diana Bullseye ZR mount here that had nothing in the box except the mount and it does have a reversible plate on it.
I figured out how to fix cant in a one piece mount. Add thin washers to the Allen screws. This keeps the screw from binding the clamp piece. I discovered this by accident and now I have added washers to all my one piece mounts.
