How would you extract this grip bushing?

I want to replace the standard Umarex 1911 Colt Commander grips with slim ones. That means replacing the bushings. However, the Umarex bushings don't take a wrench or a screwdriver. I could use a dremel and cut a slot but thought I'd put it out here in case there's a better way. My concern is that are cheap metal and that they used heating and cooling techniques in the factory so they'll not withstand any real torque. Heck, they might be part of the handle casting. I'd be ruining a brand new gun. Your thoughts?
TIA.

They appear to be CAST IN when making the frame. Not seeing them as an insert

Those screw bosses are part of the casting for the frame, but they can spare some material and still leave you something to put a screw into. You might have to clean the threads with a tap if you aren't careful with a Dremel type tool when grinding them shorter. Tip: whether by power or by hand, try to hold the tool so the cutting/grinding action is away from the center of the screw. That will minimize the burr that is left in the threads.
In a worst case situation where you can't put a screw in what is left, maybe what is left of the boss can be used to hold the new grips in the right place (e.g. a hole drilled into the back to receive the boss). Then let adhesives hold the grips to the frame.

If you ruin the bosses you may have enough room for a Helicoil. You could also try some kind of threaded press fit insert.

Clicking on the picture, those are almost certainly cast as part of the frame. You are going to need to cut/file then down.
If you are using a rotary tool and cut off disk, then you could thread a screw in there and cut just barely through the casting. Back the screw out and you threads should be ready for a chamfer tool or just leave them.
I wouldn't cut farther than where the big feature meets the little feature. That would give you plenty of threads and is a natural point to trim down.

Maybe put in a set screw that you can then back out to help clean up the start of the thread.

You might also be able to run the set screw from the inside to clean up the threads too, good idea.

Just a followup. I sat down to do this mod and discovered the grips I bought are not compatible. A real Colt is probably fine and probably has removable bushings. But the Umarex replica has a bulge in the hand grip casting that prevents a flat backed grip from working. I think this is due to it accommodating the CO2 cartridge. The original plastic Umarex grips are hollow and accommodate the bulge.

If the new grips are not worth returning, a dremel sanding drum with a coarse grit could form that recess in the new grip fairly quickly. The other option would be to find some thin matching material and trace out a shim.
