Title: Artemis M11 MK2 .177 NSA 12.5 gr. CP Slugs
Post by: Back_Roads on September 22, 2021, 06:51:53 PM
Received my new Artemis M11 MK2 .177  I recently ordered from https://airgunarcheryfun.ca/artemis-m11-22-and-25-caliber/ (https://airgunarcheryfun.ca/artemis-m11-22-and-25-caliber/) Shipping was fast, no damage, had a 12.5 bar fill.
Got to open the box this am. and got to shoot it this afternoon. First pellet I tried was 10.3 gr. Air arms. shot over the crony , 885 - 890 fps.
Took it outside to finish scope sight in, the scope is a REX 6-24 x 50 with bubble level, side focus, shots were at 6x and was rested in a cheap adjustable rest I have had for years.

Here is the 30 yard sight in and 12 or so shot group the 2 stickers were from sight in, with 10.3 gr. Air Arms pellets.

Took it to 50 and decided to switch to NSA 12.5 gr. CP slugs, since the guns settings would not be enough to send a heavier slug as fast as I would like, I did not crony the slugs as of yet, but assume they may be going around 780 fps give or take  ??? I will get some crony numbers on them yet tonight.
Funny thing was they had almost the exact same POI as the AA pellets at 30 and 50 yards. Here are my first 2 sighters when I switched to slugs @ 50y.

Here are 2 5 shot groups with NSA slugs, right target was holding dead on, the left target was holding off for wind and elevation.

I never really got my M11 to like slugs (.22 cal) but it does like either the 18.13 JSB or 16 gr AA.

I have one in .25 that does ok with my cast slugs, good enough for its 50 and under hunting range I use it for. funny thing is I have not even taken time to clean the barrel as of yet on the .177  :o
I do prefer the M11 over my Marauder, its silky smooth bolt, and better bluing and I must even say build quality, on the ones I have including their pistol/ carbines I have, and the price is very attractive, might be why I keep buying them ;)

Thanks James;  Been waiting for your report.  Looking @DAR or m11 in 177. Shooting slugs accurately at 50yds is required.  Is the moderator on m11 the one that comes with it?  Thanks again for any observations good or bad.  I assume you got the untuned gun?

Being I bought the M11 from Canada, there is no moderator included, but can be ordered from Air Gun Archery Fun , and drop shipped from a US based dealer that also does tuning work etc. for w\their US customers. IIR they may be an upgrade from the OE ones that would be included.

I cast up some of my .177 slugs from my decked mold, getting 875 FPS with them, seem accurate @10m, but will have to take it outside and see what happens at 50. I do loose some energy down from 29ish to just under 20 FPE.

Will have to see how they do out of the Mrod also more to come.  8)

Did you ever chrony those 12.5 NSAs doing well at 50 yds?

Been getting good results with those sligs with the Akela. Recently tuned it down a bit and I'm getting about 80 good shots at 780 fps. Doing great out to 75 yds. Haven't gotten as much time to practice at 10l as I'd like. There was so much drop at 100 that I kept hitting a tree branch we didn't think to clear on the lane we cut.

Was surprised 780 fos was enough speed. Doing a search pulled up this thread.

IIR they were 880- 890 fps, matter of fact I almost grabbed this gun over the weekend to run the slugs over the crony, as I could not find any notes on my dope for it.

In a post above, your best guess at the time was 780 fps. Did you stretch it out beyond 50 yds with the NSAs?

My search also yielded some folks discussing fx barrels that were doing well in the high 700s, better than they did in the 800s.

OK the 870 was with 18.5 gr home cast slugs, I may have never tested the 12.5 gr NSA or need to retest. Maybe they went to fast
and I scraped the idea ???
