I was originally just going to modify the shape of the notch on pump arm to make it easy to pull away and less noisy, then I stumbled on a thread where someone was just remove the spring in the latch, this of course would be much more quiet than what I was planning, and take the Legendary easy pumping 880 to next level.... My question is: does removing the coil spring make it super easy to "bump" the pump arm open? I have also read about putting adhesive backed felt in the pump arm groove to quiet on close. This seems like a good solution, just don't want my pump arm flopping open all the time( I'm fussy, I know) just checking to see what the "heavy hitters" are doing? ;D

I took the spring out on my 880, imo it's definitely better. It rarely flies open, it has a few times though.
I tried the felt pad too but it fell off and I haven't bothered finding another one to replace it.

The first thing I did on my new daisy was removing the spring.. It never flies open.

I don't have a Daisy but I stuck the loop side of a strip of velcro sticky-back on my Benji 392 and it made a big difference. However over time the edges of the pump arm compressed grooves in the Velcro and the clacking noise when pumping started to come back a bit. I think the next thing to try will be a nice strip of thick leather.
